Live from the News Room of Akash TV, we have our star news reader, .Vrish. with latest news about the LPL tournament .

News Reader .Vrish.: Good Morning, viewer. We just received a very important announcement from the LPL supervisor, Devi Minakshi, who is presiding and supervising the events of the tournament in the absence of Devi Parvati(due to her memory loss stuff) of an important press conference being held in Madurai.

We have our correspondent, Foram is in Madurai at the moment.

Foram: Thank you, Vrish. As you can see the press conference has not started yet, but the owners of all the teams are arriving to the venue to learn more about the important announcement to be made. Brahma Dev and Mahadev have already arrived and as you can see on the screen, Bhagwan Vishnu just landed and has arrived for the conference. Devi Minakshi, Kuber and Vishwakarma have just arrived and the conference will start any moment now.

Minakshi: Thank you all for coming. The LPL administration has an important announcement to make for the players especially. We have decided to award the player with the most runs and the highest wicket-takers of the tournament. The player with the most runs in the tournament will be awarded the Orange Mukut, while the tournament's highest wicket-taker will be awarded the Purple Mukut. These Mukuts are being sponsored by Kuber and designed by Vishwakarma. Also the current highest run-scorer and the current highest wicket-taker would wear an orange angavastram(a sash) and a purple angavastram respectively during the matches of the league phase.

Thank you, any questions?

Foram: When will we get to see the Mukuts and know the rankings?

Kuber: The Mukuts will be reveiled along with the LPL Trophy and we'll release the rankings as soon as possible. Thank you.

After the Press Conference ended.

Foram: As told at the press conference just now, the highest run-scorer and wicket-taker are going to be awarded the Orange Mukut and the Purple Mukut, respectively. Now, let's learn the reactions of some of the team owners present here. Shukracharya ji, excuse me sir. What do think about these awards?

Shukracharya: I think these awards are going to be a great moral booster for the players. We are gonna try to bag these as well along with the LPL trophy.

Foram: That was the very confident owner of the AA, Guru Shukracharya. We now have the owner of team GG, the great Mahadev himself and Bhagwan Vishnu, the owner of team VV along with us. What comments do you have about these awards?

Mahadev: No doubt these awards are going to be great sign of appreciation for the players, but the shouldn't be distracted from their game due to this and should remember that their first and foremost duty is towards their team.

Vishnu: I completely agree with Mahadev on this. This is be a healthy competition and should remain the way it is.

Foram: Thank you. Back to you, Vrish

Back in the Akash TV news room,

Vrish: Thank you, Foram. We will take you leave for now, but will be back with more news about the LPL

GG squeaks past VV in superover thriller

In what was the most exciting match so far, GG averted an upset to tie w/ VV and take it into a super over.

Daksha won the toss and chose to bat. Rishi Kashyap came in and batted. Nandi produced a shocker and got rid of Durvasa in the very second over, when he brought himself in to bowl, while Rishi Kashyap was next removed by Mahakal. Narada & Varuna went on to stabilize the innings, but that only lasted a while before Nandi returned to remove Varuna, while Mahakal came back and made short work of Narada. Vibheeshan tried to salvage things, but Tarakaksh got him out as well.

In response, GG batted steadily, but Narada produced a fantastic bowling spell to send Shilad, Markandeya, Nandi and Shani back to the pavilion. Vayu and Ganesh started stabilizing things, but Vayu soon fell to Munda, and then the rest of the innings started collapsing. Finally, in the 19th over, GG had lost 9 wickets, and Ganesh was alone w/ Mahakal. 8 runs were needed off that over, w/ Mahakal on strike. Munda managed to tie him down for the first 3 balls, before Mahakal stole a single of the 4th. Ganesh then hit a 4, and needed just 3 to win. He hit the next ball, but Varuna managed to stop it at the boundary. He returned it, and while Ganesh and Mahakal took their 3rd, Munda got the ball and managed to run out Mahakal.

This sent everythng into the superover. GG had to bat first this time, and they chose Vayu to bat w/ Ganesh, while VV tossed the ball to Narada. Vayu hit a 4 of the first ball, and then took a single. Ganesh then hit 2 fours, but the third 4 was again intercepted again by Varuna, restricting him to 3. The last ball - Vayu tried switch hitting it, but was clean bowled. GG had made 16 runs.

VV had to bat now, so Daksha sent in Durvasa and Varuna, while Nandi gave the ball to Mahakal. Mahakal clean bowled Durvasa first ball, and so Daksha sent Munda out. Munda took a single, following which Varuna hit 3 fours. However, the next delivery from Mahakal was a clean yorker, which Varuna could only push on to Nandi at mid on. GG's unbeaten record continued.

Nandi got the man of the match award, as well as naya soch award for getting rid of Durvasa.

Score summary

VV - 130/7

Narada - 40
Varuna - 35
Vibheeshan - 20

Nandi - 4/29

GG - 130/10

Ganesh - 45
Vayu - 40

PP trounces SS in bowling revelation

PP started its campaign on its home ground by pulling off a major win over SS in an emphatic fashion.

Kartikeya won the toss and put SS in to bat. Kartikeya took out Rishi Garg w/ the first ball of the match, and in the following over, removed Vaishistha and Rama cheaply. On the other end, Tarakasura removed Sanandana and Bhageeratha, and VV were tottering at 13/5.

Chanda then came in and played an uncharacteristically slow innings. Finally, Kartikeya decided that he needed to wind up the tail, and so alongside Veerbhadra, he brought himself back and dismissed Chanda. Shumbha and Hunda were soon to follow, and SS were all out for a paltry 35.

In response, PP decided to get some batting practice and sent out Kama to open alongside Agastya. Rama decided to keep up the aggression and had Shumbha, Hunda and Chanda operating in tandem. Kama hit a couple of boundaries but was out for 12. Kartikeya then sent out Lakshman, and almost like he was sending a message to SS, Lakshman made short work of the target and hit a quickfire 16 - 2 sixes and a four - to see his side to victory.

Kartikeya got the man of the match award for his best figures of 6/12.

Score summary:

SS - 35/10

Chanda - 19

Kartikeya - 6/12

PP - 36 - 1

Lakshman - 16
Kama - 12

Shumbha - 1/20

AA upsets GG in Kailash

AA ended the winning run of GG as they pulled off an amazing away in over the hosts to pull ahead to the top of the table. Winning the toss, they chose to bat, and then took control of the game.

After 2 indifferent performances following his historical double century, Bhashmasura struck again today. He totally ripped apart the attack of Tarakaksh & Vayu, and hit a quicfire 50 in the powerplay overs, while Rishi Atri kept rotating the strike for him. However, in the 7th over, Nandi introduced Mahakaal, who quickly took out both openers. This brought Vidyunmali & Vasuki together, but Nandi introduced Nataraja who made short work of Vasuki, trapping him lbw. Maya Danav came, and the scoring slowed down on Nataraj's end. Vidyunmali tried to hit out and get runs flowing from the other end, but ultimately holed out to Shilad near the boundary.

Kumbhakarna, who was included in this match since this was his one day of waking up, joined them and then took on both Nataraj & Mahakal. Like Bhashmasura, he too hit a quickfire 50 and finally, AA made 180.

In response, AA opened the bowling this time w/ Bhashmasura & Kumbhakarna. Bhashmasura removed Shilad while Kumbhakarna removed Markandeya. This brought Ugrasura, making his debut as well for GG, to the crease, as well as Nandi. Kumbhakarna snapped up Nandi very quickly, and that brought Nataraj to the crease. Vidyunmali now introduced Jalandhar, deciding that only he could get rid of the batsmen in the middle.

Jalandhar had an amazing spell. He first removed Ugrasura clean bowled, and the latter on his debut, had no idea what hit him - he was out for 10. This brought Ganesh to the crease, and resulted in a fascinating contest b/w Jalandhar and Vasuki on one side, and Nataraj & Ganesh on the other. Jalandhar bowled a couple of yorkers which Ganesh defended well, but finally, he had one that pitcher right in center but swung, touching Ganesh's outside edge and Kumbhakarna took a terrific catch, and Ganesh was dismissed for the first time in the series.

Nataraj then tried to hit out, and made some valuable runs against Vasuki, who had a torrid day against him. However, the very next over, Bhashmasura bowled him a deceptively slower delivery while Nataraj came dancing down the pitch and missed, and was clean bowled.

AA by now were all pretty excited. Vayu came in, much later than he normally did, and tried to accelerate, given that the required run rate had climbed steeply. He hit Kumbhakarna high but was caught at the boundary by Maya Danav. Kumbhakarna next removed Shani in his very next over, followed by Tarakaksh. Finally, it came down to Jalandhar vs Mahakal. Mahakal's attempts towards the boundary was intercepted by the AA, and by then, the asking rate had climbed to above 6 per ball.

Kumbhakarna won the man of the match award for a great all round performance - 54* and bowling figures of 3/15, as well as his catch that dismissed Ganesh. He also bagged the Nayi soch award for being the surprise package in this match.

Score summary

AA - 180/8

Kumbhakarna - 54*
Bhashmasura - 51

Mahakal - 4/28

GG - 140/9

Nataraj - 40
Ganesh - 29
Vayu - 25

Jalandhar - 5/25
Kumbhakarna - 3/15

PP scores easy win over BB

PP continued its winning ways, and the nightmare for BB continued at Gangotri, where PP won another easy victory over their opposition.

Dadhichi won the toss, and elected to bat. Ravan was back in the side, and once again, he opened the batting alongside Rishi Kashyap. PP had Tarakasura open the bowling, and he swung into action, removing in quick succession, Rishis Kashyap, Rajguru and Angira. Dadhichi then joined Ravan and managed to stabilize his end, and at the end of 10 overs, BB were a respectable 60/3.

Kartikeya then introduced Kama and Shilpi to bowl their spin. Ravan managed to negotiate that for 2 more overs, but Kama managed to bowl over Dadhichi and end his resistance. Ravan however made the most of this, and managed 52 runs.

Kartikeya brought himself into the attack in over 14, and immediately removed Ravan. Once Ravan was gone, the rest of the BB attack crumbled. Kartikeya bagged 4 wickets, and Virbhadra 3, BB ended up w/ 120 all out.

In response, Kartikeya decided to do something about Ravan's pace, and sent in Tarakasura to open w/ Lakshman. Lakshman batted heroically, seeing off Ravan's first 2 overs, and Dadhichi withdrew him from the attack. However, the introduction of Dhoomralochan got rid of Lakshman.

Tarakasura continued undaunted, until Dhoomralochan got rid of him as well. This brought Agastya & Shilpi to the crease. Both managed to neutralize Dhoomralochan, so Dadhichi brought himself in to bowl, along w/ Agni. Agni managed to remove both Agastya and Shilpi.

Seeing this remarkably good fightback by BB, Kartikeya sent in Kamadev and Ashwin 2 to bat. They stabilized things until over 17, when Dadhichi brought Ravan back, who made short work of both of them.

Kartikeya then came in w/ Kamalaskh, and they batted sensibly. Both Kartikeya and Kamalaksh hit a 6 each of Ravan's last 2 overs. However, they made sure to loot the other end, so that at the end of it all, they made the total easily.

Kartikeya won the man of the match award for his all round performance.

BB - 120/10

Ravan - 52
Dadhichi - 20

Kartikeya - 4/28
Veerbhadra - 3/21

PP

Tarakasura - 40
Lakshman - 32
Kama - 24

Agni - 2/16
Ravan - 2/26

During the AA-GG interval, Foram caught up w/ Bhashmasura to interview him.

F: Congratulations on your great innings. How was it like to put such a performance against the team leaders out there?

Bhashmasura: It was great. It was great to have Kumbhakarna wake up today and do the finishing w/ us.

F: Well, thanks to that innings, I have something for you. Can you take off your crown...

Bhashmasura: Uh...

F: ... and wear this? This is for you being the leading run scorer in the tournament (hands him the orange crown.)

Bhashmasura: Thank you.

He does a mini dance w/ Foram, thanks her and leaves 😆

Similarly, during the PP-BB match, Kartikeya's 4/28 took him to the top wicket taker, and he was interviewed by Shadow.Daemon.

S.D: Congratulations, Skanda, on your bowling spell. How was it like to bowl out there?

K: Oh, it was absolutely a fantastic team bowling performance. It was a great relief getting rid of Ravan, since he could have threatened our plans. And yeah, it was nice that Veerbhadra was amongst the wickets, but Taki & Tingu haven't done badly either.

S.D: Well, I have something for you. (hands him the purple crown)

K: Thank you
