It is said that Vrinda cursed Vishnu to turn into Salagram. But Salagram has it's own origin and story.

The episode relates to Varaha Purana which says that once there was a sage by the name Shalankayana, who was performing austerities and devotional meditation in many holy places with the view to gain a great devotee of Lord Vihsnu as his son. He visited the sacred tirtha (holy place) of Muktinatha in present day Northern Nepal, high in the Himalayas, and took his bath in the icy waters of the Kali Gantaki at the back of Annapurna mountain. Extremely tired from his climb in the high altitude, he finally took rest under a sala tree. Fast asleep on the eastern side of the tree, he didn't notice that the Lord Krishna had come and stood before him. Then by the Lord's mercy the sage awoke and saw his Lord standing there and immediately propitiated him with melodious Vedic mantras. The Lord then fulfilled the desire of the sage and gave him a son on the spot, and being pleased with his devotional attitude, gave another boon. Krishna informed that from that day (the dwadasi in the sukla paksa of the month of Vaisaka) He would eternally stay on the area of that mountain in the form of the Salagrama stone. Actually there was no sala tree there at that time - it was a special self-manifesting mercy incarnation of the Lord appearing for His devotee. So in the same way, the Lord continued to tell the sage that in the self-manifesting form of the Salagrama Shila, He will reside there, and the devotees can take Him in this form and worship Him, and He will reciprocate their love in that way. This is confirmed in the Mahabharata (Vana Parva Ch 84, 123-125), where it is said the name Salagram is given to Lord Vishnu who resides in the Salagrama at the Salagram Tirtha.

Another version of Tulasi and Shaligram

Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil is closely associated with the origins of Shila worship.Once in anger Sarasvati cursed Lakshmi. Sarasvati's curse changed Lakshmi into a tulsi plant and forced her to live on earth forever. Vishnu, however, intervened and modified the curse, saying that Lakshmi would remain on earth as tulasi until the river Gandaki flowed from her body. In the meantime, He would wait by the riverside in the form of a stone to take her back to His abode. This stone was the Shaligram Shila, which thus remained on earth as a representative of Vishnu. The Shila Deities and the tulsi plant are thus always worshipped together as Vishnu and Lakshmi.

I'll comment on the episode as a whole after the WU, but today's encounter at the beginning b/w the Mohit-Jalandhar & the Tushar Jha-Jalandhar was gripping! It was funny to see the adult Jalandhar abusing his kid counterpart for running away at his mother's request. Similarly funny was the kid Jalandhar blaming his adult counterpart for Vrinda's death, telling him that she got punished for being his wife.

I didn't agree w/ that last statement. If Vrinda being Jalandhar's wife is a legitimate reason for punishing her, then the reason for Vrinda's humiliation & death would be Kalnemi in the original story, who gave her in marriage to Jalandhar, or Sukhracharya in this serial, who was obsessed w/ Jalandhar's marriage - something that Jalandhar wasn't remotely interested in initially.

I think that the kid Jalandhar could have done better by telling Jalandhar that once he dethroned Indra, he had his revenge, and should have listened to Lakshmi, instead of listening to Narada. That would have at least made sense. He did well to allude to Jalandhar making Kartikeya & Ganesh lose their mother, but there were other things he could have brought up b4 that.

Also, Jalandhar bitter about why he is isolated: he's defining it all wrong. After all, his asuras are still standing behind him, even though Sukhi has abandoned him. In fact, he came into contact w/ Vrinda after the asuras, and the asuras, unlike Vrinda, ain't pissing him off by worshiping Narayan. And if he doesn't see things that way, why does he even wish to live? Hypothetically, if he did defeat Mahadev and then punish Narayan & Narada, what next? He'd be the lord of the 3 worlds and yet be upset at being lonely.

The other sad thing - once he's dead, he won't be re-united w/ Vrinda, since he's supposed to merge into Mahadev. I do feel sad here for both of them, as well as the end of this chapter.

Wish it was followed by Nahusha becoming the ruler of the devas.

Maybe I shall...

Suta narrates to his sages:😆😆

Once, Devendra was sitting on his throne in Swarga and enjoying the Apsara's dances. But just then, he heard the sound of an asura meditating on Lord Brahma. He looked down and saw, it was the asura Trishira, the son of Rishi Twashta. He got paranoid about his throne, and requested Brihaspati to tell him a solution. Since Brihaspati was encouraging Trishira's penance, he decided to disturb it himself. He sent the most beautiful Apsaras. to entice Trishira; but to his utter frustration, they failed.
He decided to take the task in his hands and appeared in front of Trishira, yelling at him to stop his tapas at once. Finding no response, he lifted his sword and beheaded Trishira. Brihaspati was shocked. "This is Brahmahatya, Indra! It is the gravest sin ever! Now only Mahadev can save you from this sin!"
Meanwhile, in Kailash, Mahadev was admiring his Gajra, which he had promised to gift Parvati. But just then he saw INdra running towards Kailash with Brihaspati. He sighed and took on the form of an Avadhut. Indra saw the Avadhut and told him to get out of the way. When he refused, INdra shot an arrow at his forehead! Lord Shiva took on his real form, and fom his third eye, his Krodhagni appeared ready to burn Indra to ashes. On Brihaspati's request, it was diverted to the sea. The sea bore it and it transformed to an egg.
But the Krodhagni had burnt the Gajra, so as per her conditions, Parvati erased her memories. So Mahadev had to use the method of Ashtanga Yoga to bring them back.
Meanwhile, inside the egg, a foetus was developing. On the shore, a mermaid was taking care of her eggs, and had just gone for a swim, when a deva carelessly ran over her eggs with his chariot! She was enraged and swore revenge. Just then, Samudra Dev took the egg, and the foetus, now fully developed, emerged from it. Lord Brahma appeared there and said, "Since he was born in contact with water, he shall be called Jalandhar." Samudra Dev handed over the baby to Matsyakanya. She was overjoyed and took baby Jalandhar home.
When Jalandhar was eight years old, Indra was travelling on the seashore by chariot. The chariot wheel got stuck in the sand. Try as he might, the wheel refused to move. Just then, Jalandhar came there, and with great ease, pushed the wheel out of the sand. Indra was stunned, and realised that Jalandhar was the result of Mahadev's krodhagni, and became scared. He sent his deva warriors to kill Jalandhar, but they failed miserably.
Jalandhar asked his mother why the devas are so cruel. She replied that that is their nature, and that he must stay far from those devas.
At night, Jalandhar got a nightmare of his mother burning. He woke up with a shock, and Matsyakanya consoled him and sang a lullaby.
The next day, Jalandhar was at the waterhole, getting water. Indra decided to kill Jalandhar himself and came disguised as a Sadhu. Jalandhar offered the Sadhu water, to which the Sadhu replied, "May Lord Indra, the almighty, protect you always." Jalandhar replied curtly that he doesn't need Indra's protection. Indra was engraged and when Jalandar turned his back to him, he took on the form of light and threw a weapon at Jalandhar. A terrified Matsyakanya ran behind Jalandhar and bore the weapon on her own back. She screamed to Jalandhar to run away, while Indra approached menacingly. A shocked Jalandhar refused to, only to be rebuked by his mother. She ordered him to run away from Indra. Jalandhar reluctantly turn and ran away. Indra disappeared.
At night, when Jalandhar returned to his mother, he was shocked to see the spear sticking out of his mother's back. He screamed, pleading his mother to come back to life. But nothing happened. Crying profusely, he called out for someone.
SHukracharya was meditating nearby and he saw the crying Jalandhar. He divined what had happened and took Jalandhar under his protection. Jalandhar replied that he wanted revenge.
He performed the last rites of his mother and went with Shukracharya.
Shukracharya told him to first conquer the anger within him and befriend it, and then seek revenge. Jalandhar meditated in the ocean and emerged as a full-fledged warrior. He passed all the tests set by Shukracharya and united the asuras.
Jalandhar decided to first go to Indra himself, and he instantly went to Swargaloka. Indra was seated on Airavat, which bowed when it saw the SHivansh in Jalandhar. Jalandhar leapt onto Airavat and nearly choked Indra. He then took Airavata and returned to Patallok. With his strength, he defeated Swarnasura and prepared his army to defeat Indra. With great pomp, he was crowned King of Asuras.
Jalandhar rallied his armies against Indra, and summoned Rishi Twashta and King Kalanemi. But just then, Indra called Swarnasura and gave him a Nidra Astra and told him to use this against Jalandhar. As Swarnasura crept towards Jalandhar, Jalandhar saw him and retaliated. Both were wounded. As Swarnasura was taken away, Kalanemi's daughter, Vrinda took care of Jalandhar as she was a doctor. Slowly she got a crush over Jalandhar, but dismissed it. SHukracharya advised Jalandhar to marry Vrinda but he refused.
Rishi Twashta called his "son", Vritrasura, to avenge the death of his brother. Vritrasura befriended Jalandhar and fought against Indra. Since he had a boon that he couldn't be killed by ordinary weapons, Rishi Dadhichi sacrificed his body for making a weapon. That weapon was called Vajra. In the battle, while Kartikeya valiantly fought Vritrasura, Indra silently approached and backstabbed Vritra. Jalandhar was enraged. Shukracharya then told him about Mahadev.
In his war with Indra, Jalandhar fought valiantly. Indra decided to attack the people at camp, including Vrinda, but in the nick of time, Jalandhar saved Vrinda. Later, when Indra used the (so called) Narayanastra against JAlandhar, Shukracharya made Vrinda accept her love for Jalandhar and that formed a shield for him. Jalandhar easily defeated Indra, who fled the scene. Jalandhar was crowned Trilokadhipati, and he married Vrinda with a lot of joy.
Narada instigated fear about the Tridevas into Jalandhar's mind. At his coronation ceremony, Jalandhar was confronted by Mahadev, and realised that he was a Shivansh. He decided to overthrow Mahadev. Shukracharya then related the story of Lingodbhava to Jalandhar.
Jalandhar then decided to invade Brahmaloka, but his plan was foiled by Mahadev, who sent him flying from Brahmaloka to Patalloka, but didn't cause any severe harm to him on Vrinda's request.
Vrinda consoled Jalandhar, but he brushed her off.
He threatened Kubera to give him money and by entertaining Yama, gained his support. He then went into a brief Samadhi and finally arose in an anti-Mahadev look. Shukracharya blessed him with the Maya Astra, and with that he kidnapped Parvati and placed her in his own Loka. Yama and his forces invaded Kailash, but they were defeated by a valiant and courageous Kartikeya. Yama changed sides, and Shukracharya, incensed at Jalandhar's act, left him and joined Mahade's army.
Vrinda was worshipping Narayana for the safety of Jalandhar, which required Jalandhar to sit with her. In order to stop the pooja, Vishnu took on Jalandhar's form and did the pooja, breaking the codes of conduct. Vrinda was taken aback at his treachery, and after cursing him, gave up her life. Jalandhar was devastated. He swore revenge and attacked Kailash. When Jalandhar defeated Kartikeya, Nandi and Ganesh, he was very surprised that Mahadev had not arrived. Mahadev arrived to put a stop to the day's war. Everyone retired for the day.
Jalandhar was confronted by his young self, and he blamed himself for his predicament. He taunted Parvati about her sons being defeated, which provoked her. She warned him about his death and once again resumed her Samadhi.
The next day, Jalandhar and Mahadev clashed in the battle together and fought fiercely. After a long and exhausting fight, Mahadev threw Jalandhar on the ground.
In the Mayaloka, Parvati finally regained her memories of Adishakti and divined the happenings of the battle. She screamed and shattered the Mayaloka. She then started going towards the battlefield.
In the battlefield, both Mahadev and Jalandhar heard the scream and the shattering of the Mayaloka. With a terrified look Jalandhar turned towards Mahadev. Mahadev furiously threw his Trishul at Jalandhar and lifted him into the air, taking on the Panchanana form.

Suta paused his narration to the sages.😆
After a simple meal, he resumed, the final part of the story.

Jalandhar sneered evilly at Mahadev. An enraged Mahadev threw him down with his Trishul. And the wound on Jalandhar healed by itself. As he was laughing about his invincibility, Jalandhar noticed someone approaching them. He recoiled in horror. It was Parvati. Parvati came to Mahadev, and placing her hand on his shoulder, emitted her SHakti. It combined with Mahadev's shakti and infused the Trishul with energy. The Trishul flew and hit Jalandhar in his navel. Jalandhar flew and hit a rock. And like a crumpled stem of a plant, he smuped down to the earth, finally vanquished.
