I got this info from a website:

Shiva and Parvati are often shown as sitting in happy, intimate embrace. They also like to discuss philosophy. Shiva taught Parvati on Vedanta (transcendent knowledge), while Parvati tought him Sankhya (cosmological knowledge). Both were perfected yogis.

After their marriage, they left for mount Kailash and immersed themselves completely in a sexual intercourse so strong that the deity of desire Kama was reborn when their sweat mingles with his ashes. Their love was so intense that it shook the cosmos and frightened even the gods.

The balance between male and female can also be obtained in marriage, when both partners complement each other to form an ultimate oneness, which is the source of creation. When Shiva does his destructive Tandava dance, Parvati is said to complement him with a slow, creative step of her own, calming him with her soft glances. While Shiva shows a wilder nature that is both ascetic and erotic, Parvati stands for the middle path of the householder. As Shiva exulted in his romantic dalliance with her, the true mother in her longed for a child. Shiva resisted the life of a householder, but Parvati's desire for it was greater than his resistance. Hence first Ganesha was born, later also Kartikay.

We tend to think of the yogi as someone practicing alone, who then comes into contact with the larger field of life.

The Yogi Becomes One with the Cosmos,
The tantric approach is to meditate alone and also meditate with a lover.

Devi and Shiva dancing and conversing. I found this stunning sculpture at Lotus Sculpture. The statue has since been sold, but they have other art depicting the integration of the sacred and the sensuous.

sri devy uvaca

The Goddess is singing to her lover, Bhairava,

Beloved and radiant Lord of the space before birth,
Revealer of essence,
Slayer of the ignorance that binds us,

You, who in play have created this universe
And permeated all forms in it with never-ending truth.
I have been wondering. . .

I have been listening to the hymns of creation,
Enchanted by the verses,
And yet still I am curious. . .

What is this delight-filled universe
Into which we find ourselves born?
What is this mysterious awareness shimmering
Everywhere within it?

This is the vijnana bhairava tantra ' the conversation being whispered always, even today, even right now, within the sacred spaces of your heart. The Goddess who is speaking is life ' the life force shimmering within every breath you breathe. The God she is speaking to is her lover. He is the One who embraces Her, the Consciousness of that Life. You are welcome to listen, and join in, for you are a dancing part of the universe of love.

bhairava uvaca
urdhve prano hy adho jivo visargatma paroccaret
utpattidvitayasth
ane bharanad bharita sthitih

The One Who is Intimate to All Beings said,

Beloved, your questions require the answers that come
Through direct living experience.

The way of experience begins with a breath
Such as the breath you are breathing now.
Awakening into luminous reality
May dawn in the momentary throb
Between any two breaths.

The breath flows in and just as it turns
To flow out, there is a flash of pure joy '
Life is renewed. Awaken into that.

As the breath is released and flows out,
There is a pulse as it turns to flow in.
In that turn, you are empty.
Enter that emptiness as the source of all life.

maruto 'ntar bahir vapi viyadyugmanivartanat
bhairavy
a bhairavasyettham bhairavi vyajyate vapuh

Radiant one,
The life essence carries on its play
Through the pulsing rhythm
Of outward and inward movement.
This is the ceaseless throb, the rhythm of life '
Terrifying in its eternity, exquisite in its constancy.

The inhalation, the return movement of breath,
Sustains life.
The outgoing breath
Purifies life.
We breathe out the old air, thoughts, feelings.

These are the two poles
Between which respiration goes on unceasingly.
Between them is every delight you could desire.

Thanks for sharing all these wonderful information and pics guys. They have neglected this aspect of Shiv Parvati relation. They have focused more of them as parents. I wish they showed some love, tasteful passion and tantric cosmic connection like you mention.
