we got a paper mache one...but my mom loved it so much shes keeping it...

at present our house is filled with Ganapatis of all shapes and sizes..it looks like a showroom!...

i havent even seen my murti as yet :(...

Now this story my mom said that our pandit ji said

A story about ganesh chaturthi that our pandit ji told us:

(Basically I am a konkani so this is our version of the story)

And this story according to our pandit ji is the main reason why bappa on other day except the ten days period of the festivies whenever worshipped is just offered one paan ( not the normal one just betel leave with supari nut and is put together with shigiri) and two bananas with two handfuls of rice. So all of u must know that ganapati bappa is first worshipped before any work is done. So u all must know what amrit manthan. So before they actually started the manthan the gods invited ganapati bappa for the pooja. Till then he was offered many delicacies. Out of arrogance and ghamand Ganapati bappa purposely delayed to come for the pooja because he knew that without his pooja done they will not start. He delayed very much. Everyone became restless. So Lord Vishnu took the roop of Ganapati bappa and arrived for the pooja. The pooja was done and the manthan started. After the pooja Ganapati bappa arrived shocked to see that his pooja was done and was even more shocked when he came to know how. In anger Lord Vishnu gave him a curse that he will never be offered many delicacies when his pooja is done. But then Ganapati bappa asked for forgiveness and then Lord vishnu forgiving him said that in a year only one day he will be offered all his favourite delicacies but other days just paan and banana.

So that is the story and u know we here put tulsi malaa for Ganapati bappa's murti on this day because he was actually Lord Vishnu in his roop.

And also it is just one day pooja the main pooja and this ten day ritual started just for enjoyment and it is people made not mentioned in the holy books.
