This story was portrayed in the Tamil movie Thiruvizhayadal. In the movie, it was as if Goddess Uma was distracted while hearing Lord Shiva's explanation about Brahmam when the little Skanda came into the area. Parvati's attention immediately went to Muruga and she started to play with her little son thereby angering Shiva immensely who cursed her to live among the fishermen.

@subha-i guess in a way its good that through DKDM we are getting see stories from south india, beacause they arent very popular else where in India...
however as you said,if they are following the south indian version we may end up getting Bappa early!

If they are importing South Indian stories, I'd like to see them at some point add Simhamukha & Surapadman to the story. Although it will be messy, given that in the version that had them, Taki was not the asura ruler.

I understand that there are differing traditions, but somehow, I'm not comfortable w/ Parvati being anybody's daughter other than Himavan's.

Incidentally, hope that yesterday wasn't the last that we have seen of him.

This is not the only occasion. As Goddess Meenakshi, Parvati was born as the daughter of the Pandya king, Malayadhwaja.

@ Kal - thanks for the story.
@ vrish - even I want to see Surapadman and Simamukha. I love their stories. They try to avege their younger bro tarakasura's death - So yes Taraka was not the almighty asura ruler as shown her.
and in this Paravti is not anybody's daughter. The head of the fisherman finds an abaondned child and brings her to be his daughter. So its adopted daughter.
@ vaarali - agree.

Whatever versions I have read in all of them Parvati is not born from any human she takes the form of a baby in a forest. She is adopted and raised by the fisherman.

So there's no need to change the actress as Parvati is not discarding her present body like Sati...She is just doing another leela.

no yaar now this is irritating me!!
she's NOT giving up her existence and cutting off all relations from her past life like she did as sati..it is just 1 of her many avataars i guess. now vishnu was born as ram but does that mean that he's not vishnu anymore???😕
