Truer words have never been spoken!
Clearly TV doesn't passively accept material, even mythological material. As a medium it actively alters ( or distorts, depending on your perspective) material that is of great value and significance to people. That's the nature of the medium. While we all enjoy seeing our mythology enacted, we have to realize that it comes at a price!
Truly I am AMAZED that they would create these bizarre scenes just to pacify a small section of the audience...such an act surely comes at the price of misinforming a much larger section of the audience?! But the makers will never take responsibility for that - they after all will rest on their blink-and-you-miss-it disclaimer! So we must be responsible consumers of this material! And not accept everything shown on TV as having any basis in the tradition!
