I dunno whether you're referring to the incident where she mocked Duryodhan after he fell into a pool in the Maya Mahal, but there are 2 accounts of this. In the Mahabharata itself, Draupadi was nowhere there to laugh & mock Duryodhan - it was actually done by the other 4 Pandavas (except of course Yudhisthir). However, Shrimad Bhagvatam does say that she mocked Duryodhan, and praises her for it. I don't think that even if she did, that she deserved to be humiliated like that in the Kaurava court. There were other ways that she could have been punished.

Also, to be fair, only Yudhisthir treated her as a commodity, but her other husbands sat silent as they never questioned him, no matter how stupid were his decisions. The moment they were given a free reign, they'd always take on her tormentors head on.

No I am not refererring to that incident and no I am never EVER going to endorse such behaviour...as Kauravas had treated Draupadi...no amount of taunts can justify these actions..In fact if you see this thread..it is about women and their respect ..not otherwise ..

The moment they were given a free reign, they'd always take on her tormentors head on.Silence is as great a sin when it comes to this..as she had rightly put the question to Arjuna...that it was he who had won her hand in the Swayamvar..and he had no business sitting head down...he should have stood up...so should have others...If he had duties towards his brothers..so had he towards his wife...

On the above comparison, however, although I'm no fan of Daksha, I do think there is a difference. Daksha had held an yagna w/o inviting either Shiva or Sati, and was minding his own business - it was Sati who went there against Shiva's advice - something she regretted. However, in Draupadi's case, it was the Pandavas who were involuntarily invited for the game of dice, and Yudhisthir who gambled her, and Dushashan who dragged her, and Dhritarashtra just allowed that to happen. So those 2 are not the same - while Daksha did nothing to force Sati to come there and get insulted, Dhritarashtra implicitly did, by not punishing Dushashan or anyone else.

So bad as Daksha was, equating him w/ Dhritarashtra is being grossly unfair to the former.

even though your first statement says u r no fan of daksha, your statement at the end contradicts that. it almost sounds like u r defending daksh.

I certainly don't think Daksha was justified in his contempt of Shiva, or his resentment @ Shiva not bowing to him @ an earlier yagna (not showin in this serial, but I go by the original storyline, and not necessarily by what's shown).

However, I do think it was his decision as to who he wanted to invite - every host had, and has that right. Shiva too agreed, and in fact pointed out to Sati that they were not invited to the yagna, and therefore, it would be improper of either of them to go. Sati too regretted insisting on coming after she realized that the slight was deliberate, but at this point, she felt like she had to avenge the insult to the both of them, and so decided to end her life so that she wouldn't have to live on as his daughter.

I do think Daksha could have more gracefully handled it by telling Sati that he chose not to invite them for reasons he didn't wish to share. Or b4 the yagna, send a message to Shiva and Sati telling them that he was hosting a yagna, and that they were not invited. But my point was that he did have a right not to invite them: insulting them however, was what was crossing the line.

Vrish,
Daksh's biggest sin was he tried to play with the destiny of God. He took Sati as a mean to fulfill his enemity towards Shivji. In the real story Sati was divine, he dared to get her married to someone else then Shivji, for whom she had actually taken this birth.
By insulting Shivji constantly he had accumulated enough sins alone, compared to the other characters of MB.
The sins comitted towards humans yields a much slower compared to the sins comitted to Gods. If they give boons fast they can punish too faster. Daksh was dealing with the Shivji, whose main duty is to destroy. Even Aadi shakti, she can not be taken lightly. Daksh himself alone had accumulated enough sins to be punised the way he was compared to the Yuga.

@ Minaxi...Again disclaiming any great knowledge on the subject...I just wanted to say that sometimes (My POV completely) ...you have to bear the burdens of your inactions as well...he being the Prajapati had set out rules...and a a mode of living in the society...Ideally he should have invited..but I am not on that...He might not have invited and Shivji was perfectly alright with that...I am actually viewing this whole situation in a broader perspective...the way he has been insulting Shiva...by inviting him and insulting him, by making him carve his own sculpt as a watcman (going by what was shown in the serial)...He actually called the leavin Sati and insulted her husband and had actually created this whole Yagna facade to insulte Shiva...after that it would be so improper on his part to say that I was doing my work..and you guys invaded it..I mean...you cannot put the world on fire and then say that I was just trying to light a matchstick!!!😆

Not only was the entire point of the yagya to insult Shiva but Daksha also refused to give Shiva his yagya bhag.

@ Srushti this was just to justify Daksh's eligibality for the punishments he is going to receive.
