Manyata is the female protagonist , it is her brother that is dead , the guy comforting her is Uday (obviously😳) ... because of the following line :

He preferred getting wet. He thought that would help washout his sins.

... I'd say he's responsible for her brother's death !

Lastly ... the title translates to : "FAKE SMILE" , perhaps the person with the fake smile is Uday . fake smile, umm... ok answer is in the pm
