News-TRP rates manipulated?time to demand 4 DEKII?

Hi there...first of all i just want to say that i feel very sad DEK is ending...and honestly...i did not enjoy coming to this forum in the past week due to the incessive personal bashing of actors etc. I have liked this forum because of the superb posts on DEK and the amazing writers that we have here.

Coming to the main point of this post...today a very interesting article has come out in one of the most trusted and leading newspaper (the Hindu) of India. It talks about the faulty trp rating system of India...some excerpts of the news are as follows:

NDTV says TV ratings manipulated

News broadcaster NDTV has sued the country's only television audience measurement company TAM India ' and its global parent firms Nielsen and Kantar ' for over a billion dollars in the Supreme Court of New York, accusing TAM of manipulating ratings in return for bribes to its officials...

TAM installs "PeopleMeters" in over 8,000 sample homes to monitor viewership patterns, giving critical input to corporate decisions on the advertising purchases that fund and sustain the broadcast industry. In its lawsuit, NDTV claims that the small sample size and low turnover have given rise to rampant corruption, with touts willing to "fix" ratings by influencing sample homes. One so-called "consultant" told NDTV and Nielsen and Kantar officials in a January 2012 meeting how the list of PeopleMeter homes ' supposed to be secret ' was leaked in Bangalore. He explained how he was able to successfully bribe viewers in sample homes, as well as TAM staff, and finally get a PeopleMeter installed at his own residence...

My point is this...

We all know that DEK is ending because of trps. But as per the news(pl see the link), every broadcasting channel knows as well as PH knows about the corruption. What is the proof that DEK has low trps????

I believe that the ghissa pita 'saas bahu' serials, which TV channels considers as their trump card might have low viewership and manipulated trps!!!

If the Indian audience has changed their taste in films(as indian films have really progressed in story and have moved ahead with times), then what makes us think that the preference for TV serials by the same audience is different(that is the saas bahu stories etc etc)!!!

I really think the story that Sony gave us as to why DEK has to end is not true. There has to be some other reasons. I am sure DEK has a wider viewership then many of the 'saas bahu' stories...and Sony knows about this?????

Maybe we need to ask this question to SR...if the sample houses based on which the trps are calculated are so small...then how does SR or anybody know that DEK has low viewership??? And if trps are not the reason then what is the reason.

We as audience need to be aware of all this and not made a BAKRA by the media or broadcasting houses...maybe time has come for us to demand for DEK season II...what say???

hmmm that is very very interesting!
I always questioned myself why would people continuously want to watch saas bahu soaps one after the other endlessly? and could never come up with any answer. The mindset of the people in the big cities seemed to be evolving and changing for the better, than why doesn't it show in their taste for the sagas that they watch... the same regressive shows since kyunki times till now.

Maybe this was the answer all along. Lets see how this case progresses

i had read somewhere that the show is ending due to some deficiencies stated by one of sony's officials..i wonder what those deficiencies could be!

I personally believe that the whole Trp system SUCKS!
There should be a proper measurement of ALL the TV sets... some way should be thought out/ developed to make this a possibility. One cannot judge a fate of a show or a progress of a show only on sampling.. what are the resting of the houses watching is my question.

Plus other than the TV sets, a means should be developed for online viewers as well... there should be on online method to check the ratings/ popularity of a show in that way too... as advertisers would love to reach more and more audiences.

Thirdly, the parent channel should employ methods to check its viewership in other countries too and somehow produce an international Trp chart too for international audiences and then fully assess which show stands where. If they want more subscriptions of their channel abroad then I feel its time they start considering the foreign audiences as well.

Lastly, if this bribery issue somehow gets proven, then a lot of people are going down cause in American Courts justice is really served 😈... Corrupt official ki lagay gi VAAT if the case really goes here... haan nai toh!

I was also totally confused by this line. Deficiencies in what sense?? They have ample open time slots so a time change can't be a problem...I think its something internal. They are pulling the plug on DEK because they WANT to pull the plug on it. I won't even be surprised if after KBC ends, we hear another Ekta mai show coming up on Sony.

I smell some internal propaganda of the Sony Channel... no wonder they didn't have any straight answers to give out... FISHY!

Oh it's really suspicious. If this is the case then we deserve answers from sony. We should ask SR or sony about it

I totally agree with you. We should demand answers from Sony...I think we have the right to a decent answer.
