Chapter two - The ghost's night out

It took a while for both brother and sister to come out of the shock. Unnati gasped 'Dada' as soon as she recovered and Uday who was pulled out of the dreamy state by her voice grabbed Monya to stop her from falling. There was only one person who didn't see the point at all it was Monya. She was furious at the fact that Unnati finally pulled those envelopes out of her grip and now she was eyeing her with some suspense.

"Have you lost it?" She asked. "I'm Monya remember?"

"No Monya it's" Unnati was taking such a great effort to tell her turn around but nothing seemed to enter Monya's head.

"Now why are you making faces at me?" She asked in a furious voice. "Banging in to the walls is something that can happen to anyone'"

Uday who was enjoying all this immensely couldn't take it anymore. He felt sure that he'll burst out laughing any second so one of his hands still holding her he tapped on her head with the other. At this point Monya finally realized someone was holding her. Her hair slapped his face as she turned around.

She recognized him from the first look. But he looked nothing to the boy she remembered. There wasn't much saying as she hadn't seen him for ten years.

But she always remembered Prince Udayveer to be a tall boy with rosy cheeks and an ear to ear grin with twinkling eyes. They were great friends then. She felt a sudden urge to hug him. But something stopped her.

Something was telling her that this wasn't her friend but someone else who had returned. Something was strange about him. It wasn't that he was so tall and so strong neither it had anything to do with the royalty that echoed in his every feature.

It was his look. Just the way he looked at her. His gaze which she remembered to be friendly was burning her all so suddenly. As if she was made out of glass he gazed deep into her eyes in to a heart that was betting wildly for no reason at all.

Then she realized he was holding her. She was in his arms if someone peered in to the hall just now. Pressing her hands into his arms she freed herself. He let go of her unintentionally. His eyes hadn't yet left her face. She needed to say something, something that would ruin this uncomfortable silence.

"You've changed" Something that sounded so like her voice was saying.

"Yeah the time changes and so does the people" Jay said just arriving at the scene. She sounded like someone who sensed a threat in their way and was trying to fight it. "And their choices"

"It's so nice to see you" Unnati said hugging Jay her face gleamed with what Monya knew so well was a fake smile.

"Same here" Jay said that toothy smile once again made its place on her face.

Still Monya said nothing and so did Uday.

After pulling apart from the hug Jay turned to Monya again.

"Hey I seem to remember you too'" She said. "'.the security's daughter right?" She said it to Uday more than to her.

"The palace seemed to be a treat for you"

Monya gripped hard on to Unnati's hand who was on the edge of retorting. "It's really nice the way you treat your servants'" she said and at the moment Giriraj entered. He was so busy on a phone call that it took him a moment to realize what he was actually seeing.

"Ah'Jay beta!!!" he said hugging her. "It's so nice to see you'It's been a while"

Monya looked at Uday who was silent throughout the talk. He was studying her expression which she found was something very odd. But as Jay had just said people do change. But now he look glad that his Dad arrived.

"Three years uncle" She replied. "You came back to India leaving us there just three years ago"

"Well Beta'your studies and my business are equally important. Don't you think'?"

"Let's postpone the argument I'm tired now" Jay said smiling. "Could you arrange a room for me?" She asked turning to Monya.

"I'll arrange you the best room there is" She replied not knowing why this girl was so after her blood.

"I don't think you can do much about that" Jay said making a thoughtful face. "I've heard that the queen's room has the best outer view...But per the information given no one can get that"

"I'll arrange that for you" Giriraj said quickly. He summoned a servant and said "Prepare the east wing room for princess Jaynandini" The servant bowed and left.

"How dare she" Unnati said the moment she and Monya closed the door of their room behind them.

"First she insulted you'and now she's asking for Mum's room! This is outrageous!!"

"She's a princess" Monya said shortly.

"That doesn't mean she can say whatever she pleases" Unnati snapped back. "I'm a princess too but I don't go telling people that they're beneath my foot"

Monya wrapped her arms around Unnati with such a sisterly affection glowing on her face that Unnati's voice lowered down a bit.

"I can't stand anyone talking to you like that" She said finally.

"That's because you're too sweet" Monya said. "Be a royal don't be enslaved by your emotions" She said it in such a serious tone that it made Unnati laugh. "You sound so much like Dad"

She stood up.

"But you just wait" She said. "I'll get her for that"

"What are you thinking of doing Unnati?" Monya asked suspiciously. "If it involves something like jumping from the roof like you did last time I'm not in got it?"

"This one's simple and she had asked for it" Unnati said with a devilish grin. "She's staying in mum's room right? So mum will come to meet her"

"I've never heard of a daughter who makes fun of her mother's death" Monya said seriously. That shut Unnati up.

But after a while she spoke.

"What I'm going to do won't make her sad'because even she won't like Jay in her room"

"Alright" Monya said finally acknowledging defeat. "What do you want me to do?"

"Help me of cause! You want to teach her a lesson don't you?"

Monya thought for a moment and she remembered Jay's arrogant face for some reason Uday's silence seemed to motivate her too.

"yeah I do" She said.

"What we need is Mum's 'Payal's."

"Why is that so?" Monya asked.

"Oh dear that's why I told you not to sleep while watching horror movies'haven't you seen that's the sound which signals that a spirit is about to enter..But there's a tiny problem"

"What?"

"They're up in Dada's room"

"Oh so you want me to get it?" Monya asked and Unnati made a puppy face at her. "No! No! NO! "

"OK Monya calm down"

She whispered as she opened the door. She had knocked for several hours but no response came so she thought of going inside. She had a bag and a few books in her hand. First she pocked her head in and saw that no one was in side. She took a deep breath and entered.

She heard the sound of water running. Thank god!! He was having a shower.

It took her a while to dig through that wardrobe which was empty until this morning. It was filled with his things now. He seemed to be here for a long stay to bring so many cloths with him. She made a face thinking about Unnati's plan who ever might stay but Princess Jaynandini would surely leave in the morning.

She found the jewelry box she was looking for. It took her a second to locate those 'Payal' s. she took them and like a cat walking through a wet surface stepped towards the door. She turned the handle and the door opened noiselessly what she had to do was to creep out.

But at the precise moment a hand pushed closed the door and another one pulled her back. She closed her eyes as her back touched the bare skin of his chest.

"So the little thief is back in action" He breathed to her ear.

"I wasn't stealing" She said slowly. There was a story they had planned to recite if she was caught but she couldn't remember anything of it now. He turned her to face him slowly. She closed her eyes again afraid of what she might see.

"So what were you taking?" He asked.

She said nothing as she felt an odd sensation creep through her body making her mind numb.

"It's alright" He said slowly like reading her face. She opened her eyes. His face was so close to her that his nose was almost touching her nose. She showed him that bag and the books.

"They are my things'I forgot them here"

"Oh I see" He said and she knew there was no getting away from it. He knows that she lied.

"So let me go'" She said wishing to disappear and kill Unnati. "Please'"

He let her go just like that. And he opened the door for her. "Good night Princess"

She gasped at him. She had almost forgotten they used to call her that. He sounded more like his mother when he said it.

"Good night U..Yuvraj ji" She had almost said Uday when she remembered he wasn't ten and she wasn't eight either. She left the place as soon as possible.

It was a peaceful night at the Jaygar palace. Jay turned over in her sleep. No wonder dreaming something beautiful and royal. It was then someone whispered in her ear. She snapped opened her eyes.

Someone had said "get out" in whisper she was so sure of it.

She looked around and saw that a window on the far end was ajar. She went to it. A tiny bit of moon light shimmered there. There was no one. Then there was a musical sound a sound like a ringing 'Payal.

She closed her eyes. "No! This isn't happening" she pinched herself. "This is a dream"

There was a soft sound of laughing and she turned around to see who it was. There was a woman sitting in her bed dressed in white her hair open and flying she was the one laughing.

She closed her eyes and reopened them. The woman was gone. She turned back to the mirror on the wall. There the woman was standing behind her! She turned around there was no one. She found one of those ringing 'Payal' s on the floor. And she knew to whom it belonged.

She turned around that woman was almost nose to nose with her, her hair flying her face a scary blue colour she closed her eyes and screamed the loudest she could.

"GUARDS!"

That gave Monya and Unnati the signal to run they ran for their lives before Jay opened her eyes.

"She's loudspeaker" Unnati said while running.

"This is all you fault" Monya replied.

"I thought she'll shout 'Bhooth' I had warned the guards not to come if they heard such a sound but'" They took a turn and that corridor was filled with guards.

"Go that side there's a short cut" Monya pushed Unnati. "I'll come go! Run!"

She ran the other side after making sure Unnati left the place safely. But she wasn't so lucky. In the darkness she ran on to the guards who were running towards the east wing two times. Both times she changed the cause just in time. But the third time she had it. Maharaj Giriraj was coming from ahead of her behind her passage was filled with guards who were searching for the mystery lady in white. She was the mystery lady in white as a matter of fact. She couldn't run anymore so she too closed her eyes preparing herself to be thrown out. Just at the moment a strong arm pulled her out of the passage in to a room she doesn't remember to exist.

The ghost was afraid of the other ghost this time as its hand covered her mouth. The guards passed the two ghosts and went towards the king.
