Chapter 5 - Change of the tide
"Princess" His voice was soft but it made her jump. Looking up she realized that she had been there for a long time and those tears in her eyes would give up her story.
"You've been crying" He said sitting beside her.
"It's none of your business!" She made an angry retort.
"So it has something to do with me?" He stretched his legs making himself comfortable and gazing up at the sky.
"Yuvraj Udayveer Singh do you think this world revolves around you?" She asked standing up unable to sit there with him any longer. "I just don't care whether you've get engaged with dozen girls it just doesn't matter!"
It took her a while to realize she had massed it up. And the moment she realized it she made a run for it which was unsuccessful as he caught her wrist and pulled her back. She lost her balance and fell in to his arms. He said nothing just wrapped his arms around her tightly.
"So that's it" He said pulling her hair clip with a swift movement, her hair which Unnati had tied up fall down framing her face. "My engagement" He gazed at her for a moment she said nothing her mind was numb again.
"But why does it matter to you princess? Hum aap ke hain kaun?"
She pushed him away and got up her heart beating wildly.
"Do you think it's a joke?" She asked in a fuming voice. It was the moment when she realized he had planned it all. He had intended her to shatter. "Did you plan all this cheap nonsense to teach me a lesson?"
"How could I do so Princess" He asked also getting up. "I never told you I love you, I never asked you to love me, you knew it from the beginning that I am committed to the princess of Devgar whether it's Jay or her sister"
"So I'm the fool here" She turned to face him her eyes burning. "yuvraj Udayveer always gets what he wants regardless what the other person may go through"
He grabbed her shoulders.
"I never got what I wanted out of you" He said putting weight to every word he uttered. "Yuvraj Udayveer never lays a hand on a woman against her wishes"
"Yeah he's such a great man" Monya said on the top of her voice. "People should start worshipping him"
She pushed away his arms.
"I know what you're playing at now so don't think it'll be that easy" she stuck her finger to his face. "I won't let you win against me! You won't get you desire your highness! Never ever!"
"Is it a challenge princess?" he asked calmly.
"Whatever you may think it is!"
"Then seal the deal before you leave" With those words his arms briefly warped around her and his lips pressed against hers.

He didn't know what made him do it. But the look in her face when he released her was satisfying. She ran away of cause not letting him say another word, but she wasn't good at lying her eyes say it all. She had feelings for him, he had them too but he wasn't going to tell her so. It was her anger, the way she shouted at him the fire in her eyes when she looked at him, it was what made him yet more attached to her. He wasn't going to let her go so easily.
"You should've told me dad" He said finally looking up at Giriraj over his glass.
"I never thought the date matters to you" He replied. "The event was bond to take place.
"It was never Jay" Those words were for himself though his father heard them. "I thought it can never be her'It was her sister always her sister"
"Who doesn't exist now" The answer was short and bitter.
"They just want to forget the old reality and get an upper hand in the Mahasaba" Giriraj added unable to tolerate his silence.
"We both have our shear of advantage"
On that moment the door opened and entered a restless Brijraj.
"We've got to hurry up!" He said and both father and the son got up in puzzlement.

She ran as fast as she could the sound of her steps echoing in her empty mind. She never looked back at him. He had made her sure of the fact that long gone is the friend of hers. There stood the prince to whom she was just an obsession. He reminded her of someone else, Of a dark chapter she doesn't want to recall of a past she had locked away. She never returned to the palace but ran straightly to the servants' quarters where she found it out that her father was back and was packing away their stuff.
We're leaving right now"
She stared at her Baba utterly bewildered her mind wasn't working so right yet. She was in shock. But her shock came no near to how Murari Lal looked. His face was white to his lips. She had never seen him so confused or scared.
"Why?" Don't ask questions Monya beta just hurry up!"
"Ok I'll tell Unnati and come'and when are we returning?"
"Never... !" He held her hand to stop her and then said. "There's no need to tell Princess Unnati"
Has Baba seen what had just happened? She blinked. Was that why he's taking her away?
It was true she wanted to leave this place as she never doubted his words. He'll surly do something'and she never even wanted to think what it would be.
"Alright!" She said and she helped him with the packing. The sooner they leave the better it'll be.
They came out of the house that belonged to them for all those years and walked up to the large palace gates. She looked up at the palace towering ahead of them for one last time. It looked exactly like it did on the night she came here for the first time. Its bright windows blinked friendly at her. Though it wasn't it felt like home and now she was leaving it forever.
She felt her father's hand on her shoulder.
"Let's go beta"
"Not so fast Murari kaka"
She felt a cold breeze freezing her as she looked up. Uday stood there with a dozen of guards they were armed and were waiting for them.
"yuvraj sa" Murari said bowing low to him. But he sounded worried.
"I dare say you're taking something that belongs to me" His voice was cold that made her shiver.
"I..I don't understand'"
"Oh I'll explain shall I" He asked his eyes lingered on Monya for a moment.
"You brought something that belongs to me all those years ago'" He advanced towards them. "Something that you took from the Devgar palace'something like princess Manyata"
Those guards seized Murari before he could work out anything and Uday gripped her hand.
"I told you uncle Brij she's here there's no need to look for her"
What was he thinking? Calling her princess Manyata? She knew who princess Manyata was, Unnati had told her. She remembered some long gone day of her making a face at Unnati.
"But it's illegal"
"It wasn't a proper marriage" Unnati shook her head. "I don't remember it myself'but they did some of the rituals and yeah they're married"
Brijraj sized Murari hands swathed around his neck.
"I would have killed you all those years ago!" Brijraj said in a voice that determined that he mean it.
Brijraj pushed and he was on the ground. She struggled against Uday's grip to get to him.
"There!" He kicked him. "Take him away and teach him a lesson that" He kicked again. Uday's grip got even tighter the harder she tried.
"He never lays a hand on my daughter again!"
"BABA!" It was a cry not a scream she felt like suffocating.
He dragged her away forcefully she couldn't see her baba anymore.
"Get in to the car princess"
She slapped him the harder she could. Anger boiling inside her knew no limits now. He held her hand tightly in his own and pushed her inside. How can someone be step down so low?
"You're pathetic"
"Nice for you to remind me"
"Let's go" he instructed the driver.

"Come on I need to show you something"
He was saying. There was only hell left for me to see she wondered inside her head.
"What?" She asked. He had finished dressing her wound now.
"Can you walk?" He asked getting up.
Knowing what he would do if she said 'no' she nodded and he smirked. They walked along the passage way. All the people there seemed to be so busy to notice them. They went pass a closed door and heard the voice of the woman who they had introduced her to be aunt Menaka.
"We need to be sure. Let's test DNAs"
Uday shook his head. They reached a door which he pulled open. She felt her heart dropping down.
"She's your mother" He said slowly. There sat a lady with an unfocused look in her eyes. She was unintentionally stroking the hair of the doll she had in her hand.
"She hasn't uttered a single word for those twenty years princess" He said kneeling beside the lady and taking her hand. "I was talking about that family"
He pulled her wrist that she too kneeled beside him.
"Aunty Komal" He said. "See I brought her'Manyata's home"
Komal turned at the word Manyata and said in an uncatchable way.
"She was always home'she was with me"

People were walking in, cameras were flashing. It was a night that comes once in a century. The princess was home and whole Mumbai seems to have turned up to see her.
Rajmatha talked to the media answering every single question they asked. Manyata watched her doing so. She had promised her that she'll let her go to her baba if she accepts the truth of being their princess of which she had no choice. She was their daughter for sure or the DNA report suggested it to be so. Even then she wanted to see him listen to his side of the story why he did what he did.
And then there was Jay who ignored her completely. One who wasn't there was Uday. He hadn't turned up to meet her after that fateful night. She was thankful he made her suffocate these days. Even when this party after the press conference was arranged in his hotel he wasn't in sight.
"Manyata" Anut Menaka snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Come meet my family" She was so kind to her these days. She knew a bit about her family who lived abroad. Menaka had two sons of whom she knew nothing.
"This is your Uncle"
She touched his feet he blessed her.
"This is your cousin Vijay" Vijay nodded to her not so interested. She knew why of cause. He seemed to be hanging out with Jay all his life like he was doing now. "I don't know where Aditya is though..I'll call him" She went missing in the crowed and Manyata let out a sigh.
"I'm here mum'Princess will you dance with me?" That voice made her shiver. She slowly turned around wishing with all her heart that this can't be him. It just can't be!
He dragged her along with him without waiting for an answer and started dancing with her. She felt his breath on her face. After many days for the first time she wished if Uday was here.
"So we met again" He whispered and she silently cursed her fate. "How are you getting away this time princess?" Why wasn't anyone interfering she wondered.
"Let me go Aditya" She said in a voice that would burn him down with its force.
"Just Aditya?" He asked. "Oh don't get so cozy with me princess" His eyes stared at her hungrily. "Oh I might just'"
His grip on her hand and her waist tightened as she tried to get away from him. Oh where had her fate brought her? She felt fear of what she thought was her coming future. She wanted to get away from him as soon as possible. But no! He wasn't going to let her leave so easily.
"Don't show everyone how pathetic you are" She hissed.
He stopped dancing gripping her ever so tightly. "I might just tell everyone how pathetic you are"
"Being a royal doesn't mean you can do everything you wish!"
"Haven't I taught you what being a royal means?" He asked and her eyes misted suddenly.
"Can I have this dance Aditya?" A voice asked just as a hand swathed around her waist. Aditya gave them one sarcastic parting look before leaving.
"Are you alright princess" Uday asked cupping her face in his hands and making her look at him.
Her world had crumbled in to thousand pieces all around her. She took one long breath and hugged him. Forgetting that there were thousands of people watching, forgetting that they would go all the way to tomorrow headlines forgetting that she said she hate him, she hugged him and felt for that one moment that she was nothing if he wasn't around.
She couldn't survive in this world of royals even if she's one of them. She needed him as much as she needed air to breath.
"Take me home" She whispered.
He looked down at her and never asked her to explain. He didn't know himself that what made her so vulnerable all so suddenly. But he could guess after all.
"Wait a minute princess"
Still on the stage the press conference was going on as they left the party. Regardless to the begging looks she was giving he lead her to the stage. Those people started whispering. Cameras flashed in their direction this was the first public appearance of princess Manyata.
"This is princess Manyata" He told them his voice towering against their whisper. "My future queen" For a one odd moment his eyes burned towards Aditya who was leaning against a pillar enjoying his wine.
