Wonderful post. Extremely hard hitting. But this is the truth.
Leave alone being a Monarch, a normal human who has the responsibility of a legacy, estate or who needs to preserve and nurture its family's or other's hard work or whose has to shoulder the responsibility of other's betterment needs to have the qualities of DS.
UV is still taking his baby steps towards being what DS is today. But there is a greater possibility of not succeeding. Not cause he does not have all the qualities that you sited but cause he can tip to the other side where he lands up being a little too full of himself or know it all types.
There is a thin line between being cold calculative and manipulative for greater good and selfish and pure evil yet thinking all is done for greater good. Power at times possesses and blinds the person. DS never has let it happen to her but UV is still not mastered this art.
You are absolutely right in all that you have said. But the point is there are always two ways of looking at things. No two people will look at the same thing in a similar fashion.
People like 'Monarch / Patriac / Forebearers / Leaders whichever way you want to term them as' aka DS look at things differently as against 'commoners' aka Komal.
For Monarchs the legacy (includes all such as estate, family honor, betterment of its subjects, etc) is more important. And you have rightly pointed out at times one is required to be downright ruthless for greater good. Most will never understand why and will term Monarchs as selfish, evil, self centered, power hungry control freaks who just want to prove that these Monarchs derive pleasure and get a high proving that they can write destinies. But the fact remains the true Monarchs know they can't write destinies but they are instruments in God's hand to guide and protect destinies. This is the reason why Komal finds DS the Vamp. Hence, Komal is the commoner / subject.
For such commoner or subjects emotions play an important role. For them all that the Monarch does seems a mad battle for maintaining that legacy (they will go to the extent of terming it as false honor). They feel that the Monarch reels under the effect of power letting power take control (like the ring possesses and controls the wearer in Lord of the Rings) and rule the life and motives of the Monarch. He/She is blinded by this power. Komal feels that UV falls in this category. But are these commoners wrong. No cause this can happen too.
But like I said earlier there are two ways of looking at anything. Both ways are not entirely wrong also cause perception and goals of each individual's life are different Hence one really can't say what DS sees as greater good is entirely correct nor can one can say that what Komal thinks is entire wrong.
Sad part is that due to this the conflict will always remain. Akirkaar insaan ka nazariyaan badalna sabse muskhil baat hoti hai especially agar woh samajna na chahata ho. Most often commoners / subject due to half knowledge samaj bhi nahi pate.
Out and out at times it is a thankless job being the Monarch.
