Lal Juto (red shoes) won the honour of bagging the award for the best creative idea at the 11th Shanghai International Film Festival. The film by the students of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) has won one of the top five prizes in the festival and carried prize money of $1,500.

The international jury honoured the director of the film, Shweta Merchant, with the award for best creative idea. In fact, it is for the first time that a movie made by an SRFTI student has gained international recognition.

Laal Juto competed against 400 entries received from 20 countries in this 11th Shanghai International Film Festival out of which 24 were short-listed for final consideration.

The story of "Lal Juto" is based on a short story penned by the Bengali writer Kamal Kumar Mazumdar. When Shweta was asked why she chose this book only for the story of her film, she explained "The simplicity and innocence of the story attracted me to make a film on it."

Pehle juttey churao phir auction ...I think Uday sleeps with his jutey under his pillows...if I had my way I would have thrown those shoes long back or had made him go to a shop and buy some new shoes...in any case he looks as if he has left all his clothes in Jaigarh, keeps repeating his two or three clothes...we should make him go for a shopping spree...may be with us 😎
