Chapter 6

I woke up the next morning really happy and excited. My job went really great yesterday, Uday had got it for me. It was really easy for him because he turned out to be the manager to the store, and guess what? Aakash also works there.

I was telling them both about how I needed to get into a college. They told me that they both go to Rajmahal College. Aakash also told me that his dad was the head of the college, so I was likely to get a chance to get in. So all I had to do was give a good impression to Aakash's dad, and I would easily get it.

I smiled to myself as I made the finishing touches to my look today. I chose to wear a dark green churidar, doing my usual daily make up (eye liner, and clear lip gloss). I brushed my straightened hair, leaving it down but clipping my fringe up with a grip. Aakash had promised to pick me up today, so I knew I wouldn't have to worry about catching a bus or anything.

I quickly grabbed my purse, keys and education papers. I stayed up late all last night, changing the name into Manyata. Locking the front door, I hoped I wouldn't bump into anyone again like yesterday. I guess it was a good thing, it made me get a job easily.

I went down the elevator, and walked out of the building. Howevere, once again, I hadn't looked where I was going and bumped straight into Jay.

"Oh my God, you stupid idiot! Look what you've done to my expensive dress!!" she yelled. It looked like she didn't have anything else to wear and was wearing a yellow coloured towel around her, call that expensive? I think she was holding a glass of water, so it must have spilt on her.

"Urmm... I'm sorry. I have to go now," I told her, but she just screamed. God, why does that girl have to make so much drama. It's just water, you won't die! Soon everyone started crowding around us. "Look I'll pay for that yellow towel! How much do you want?" I asked her, she was getting so annoying.

"Manyata, you see Jay has this thing," Uday told me, circling around me. "She has to make the littlest thing a drama, don't you Jay," he asked Jay.

"Ugh, come on Uday! She's ruined my dress, it was specially made just for me and my daddy paid for it! She replied in annoyance.

"Look if you want the money, then here!" I slapped her about 20 rupees, "if you don't then give it to someone else. It was just some water, hai naye toh!" With that I just walked out of the building.

I looked for Aakash and he wasn't anywhere. He should have been here by now, I was about 20 minutes late. Maybe he was running late too. I guess I could wait some more minutes for him.

After 10 more minutes I knew he wouldn't be coming. Maybe he had forgotten about me. Oh no, how will I find the college now?

Uday walked out of the building, smirking when he saw me, "Kya hoa? Aakash lover boy didn't come to pick you up?". What was his problem? He was really nice to me yesterday and now he's being stupid?

"Look I don't love him OK? He saved me from those horrible kidnappers, that doesn't make me love him. Why are you being so mean to me right now anyway?" I told him in anger.

"Wait, you've been kidnapped?" he asked me, now he had a serious face. Oh god, me and my big mouth.

"Urmm.. no..." I lied.

"You know your really bad at lying, I know you did get kidnapped, but why?" He asked me. He could be acting, like he did care, but then he might not be.

"Uday, I really don't know. One minute I was in the park, the next I was in a small van," I told him. I decided to leave out the part about running away. I mean, he might end up phoning the police. Then who knows what would happen to me.

"Manata please don't cry," he told me as he brought me into a hug. "I won't let anyone kidnap you, I'll find out who did it and why. Just please don't cry," he reassured me. I knew he wouldn't be able to. I couldn't hold onto my tears and just let all my tears fall.

Soon I pulled away. "Thanks Uday, that would mean so much for me," I told him. He smiled, but he looked sort of sad. To be honest I didn't want his pity, but he had helped me so much.

"No problem yaar, if you ever want to talk about anything then I'm always here for you," he told me. I nodded, not wanting to talk any more and he understood me. However he stayed sitting next to me, but I didn't mind.

I waited for Aakash to come but he still hadn't. He was really late. Soon Jay came out of the building and looked around. When she saw us, she decided to walk up to us.

"Hey Udayveer, oh and Manyata," when she said my name she gave me the evils. She had changed her clothes to some casual shorts and a hot pink top.

"Hey Jay," Uday replied.

"Uh, hi," I said not really bothering to pay attention. She had rolled her eyes at me and then focused on Uday.

"So Uday, you have any plans today?" she asked him. Uday made a weird face, and I tried to hide my laugh.

"Sorry Jay, I'm busy today. Got work," he told her. He probably doesn't like her at all. You could see it from the first time you met them.

"Come on Uday, we both know that you don't have work on a Saturday," Jay smirked. Guess Uday's hopes are lost. I guess I could help him.

"You know what Jay, Uday's planned to help me find a college today. So I guess he is kinda busy today," I told her. Uday looked shocked but then quickly recovered by grinning.

"Yeah, sorry Jay, I'm helping Manyata today," With that Jay just walked away in disgust. "Thanks Manyata, what would I do without you?"

"You'd probably going around town with Jay," I replied laughing. Uday joined in and laughed with me. Just as we stopped laughing, I saw Aakash driving past us in his car. "Uday, isn't that Aakash?" I asked him, shocked.

"Huh... Yeah it is," He told me. Then I saw Jay walking into his car, and then she went into it.

"And that was Jay right?" I said in disbelief.

"Manyata, I'm sorry," Uday told me, wiping my tears on my cheek. I didn't realise it, but I had started crying again.

So what did you think? Will ManVeer get closer?
