Hi,
I keep on thinking of different things about this show, never happened before with any other show, actually!
This time, my topic is language...I really like the easy flow of hindi cum English in DEK. Everyone seems to speak it really well, especially Uday and Jay.
Friday's episode stood out for me especially becayse DS also said something 'mujhe between the lines parna hoga?' I just thought that was so easy to relate too. Particularly because I speak that way too.
However, I may be biased, because I can't actually speak Hindi properly, so for me, this serial is quite easy to follow even without subtitles...
I think the reason it is shooting up through the ranks is partly also because we as an audience can relate to the show and characters and the language they as it is a modern and contemporary background...Also I feel Bollywood has also headed out this way too.
Nowadays most internet forum users all have access to the internet and the show appeals to a younger generation as well, who are the maximum internet users...

I don't think many people have thought of this and in fact I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. Most of us are so comfortable speaking two or more languages that we don't notice if the mix.

Totally agree with you Shruti! The world has become a bilingual place where knowing two languages is now considered the norm!

Agree, that is Hinglish (Hindi +English) 😳 nowadays Hinglish is very common in metros and cities.
Thats why I can't relate to manyata's language because as per my knowledge even chawl people don't speak the way manyata does. My maid leaves in chawl and she uses decent language..no gali galoch or ugly words even though she is hardly 10th pass.
it is very irritating, can't stand the why manyata speaks, i can imagine what her 'RAJ PARIWAAR' must be feeling.

Actually this is not the first show that is bilingual, but yes it does make me happy that they use hinglish😳 There have been many shows. The oldest one that I recall is Hip Hip Hurray in late 90's that catered to youth (based upon school life), than ofcourse Remix (which was produced by the same person who produced this show), Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Rishta.com, Hotel Kingston, Special Squad. In fact, all the shows from StarOne during its initial days since the show was catering to urban people. But than Starone started showing in small town/villages also...hence, they had to Indian-ize the lingos.

But I don't find the reason for them to do so, because everyone in village too knows or atleast understands english. My school teacher had showed us this video that said that India has 100% english literacy rate. As in the people who are literate, 100% of them knows/understands english. And India (not considering Papua New Guinea) is the most diverse country when it comes to languages. In India, a person at least knows 2 languages. And for youth, we don't speak pure hindi or pure english. It is always Hinglish in India...so yes it definitely helps the audience relate to the characters on the verbal level. And the dialogues in this show too are very well written. The sarcasm, mockery...especially from Vijay, Uday and Jay. This show definitely gains A in the usage of its language.

You know what is sad? Speaking about the language and how rare it is for Indian shows to use multi-language, it is sad that there are so many shows on Indian TV...mostly all these shows cater to small town audience, but zero shows for the urban audience. It is really unfair. When a show comes for urban-audience, they are taken off because of less TRP...which I feel is really unfair for us as the viewers.
