Frozen
"Hello Uday..."
"Hi Dad," Uday said, expressionlessly looking at the now shattered mirror.
"Are you okay?" Giriraj asked. "Guess what?" he said gleefully. "Two celebrities from Hollywood are booking our hotel for their wedding. They're paying a bomb! This is going to be great for Jaigarh tourism!"
"Wow Dad, amazing. I'm sorry I can't help you," Uday said, fiddling with the broken glass in his hand.
"Pssh..you just enjoy. This is the first time you've taken a holiday since the four years you've been working under me...plus, I'm sure you're hyped up for the upcoming ad campaign! Okay, the connection's breaking, will talk to you about this later."
"Yes Dad," Uday said, running his fingers over the jagged edges.
"Uday Sahib!" the servant bringing the coffee screamed as he entered. "Yeh kya hua?"
"I'm okay," he said rudely. "It happened by mistake okay?"
The servant gave both the prince and the broken mirror a long, hard stare. Then muttering something about "today's brats", he picked up the pieces of glass and put them on his tray.
"Sahib, give me that piece," the servant said.
"No," Uday said childishly. "I'm keeping this with myself."
The servant mentally tsked tsked as he left a cup of coffee and went away. Uday fell into a thoughtful lull again before the beep beep of Unnati's cellphone jerked him back to consciousness.
Akash at palace. Heeelp! Monia.
Uday smirked. He didn't need the mirror to tell him that he looked ready to kill.

"Monia, why do you want me to go?" Akash asked sullenly.
Maanyata sighed. "Akash yaar, don't you know? J and that Vijay Bhai are prowling the grounds like two billis looking for you. Please yaar, if you value your life go."
"But I thought you said you shouldn't be scared if you're in love," he pouted.
Maanyata rolled her eyes. "Akash, this is not the time to fight! Look, I thought you were going to ask my parents for my hand."
"I was," he insisted. "But then, I just wanted to meet you one last time, Romeo-Juliet style."
Maanyata giggled in spite of her irritation that he had so blatantly flouted the palace's security rules again. I guess he's right, she thought. Why am I getting so irritated? I like it when he comes here right?
She decided to SMS Unnati and tell her not to worry, she had everything under control. I'll talk to him for a little while, then tell him to go when J is coming. She sighed to herself, thinking of how Akash was unaware of the 'looks' J was giving her since morning for making her and her precious Udayveer fight.
"Princess..."
Maanyata's blood froze. She could recognize that voice anywhere. Even if she happened to hit her head on a wall and lose her memory, that voice would always remind her of her darkest fears.
Akash swiveled his neck behind and frowned. Yuuvraaj Udayveer, Prince of Jaigarh and his girlfriend's official fiance was standing down, looking at both of them with amusement glinting in his eyes.
"Aaa-kash!" Maanyata stuttered, quick to do damage control. "I told you not to come here! Go away, or else-"
"There's no need for 'or-else' Princess," Udayveer said calmly. "I think certain things should be ended here only, right?"
Aakash shot Udayveer a challenging look, and received a totally blank expression in return which made a chill run down his spine. In Uday's eyes there was neither anger, nor snobbishness. They were two dark, watery pools, and Aakash could see the demons hidden in their depths.
And though he could normally argue with Udayveer, right now, there was something unknown in his face which told Aakash only one message. : Run.
Uday lazily grabbed hold of the ladder and began shaking it. Aakash swayed in horror, even as Maanyata screamed: "No!"
I don't hesitate to kill. One second is enough to let the deer leap away-and I'm not going to let you run.
"Uday please!" she shouted. "He'll fall Uday, he'll break his neck! Don't do that!"
I can take revenge on anyone. Just because I love you doesn't mean that you can hurt me-or that I cannot hurt you.
"Uday, he'll go away!" she shrieked terrorized. "He'll never come back! I swear, I'll tell him not to come back!"
I may trust very easily-but I can also do penance for my mistrust very easily.
Aakash began to climb down, trying to hold onto all his inner courage. His hands shaking with anger, Uday tightened his hold on Akash's leg and brought him crashing down in a single sweep that would have broken the neck of a small animal.
Maanyata had raced down by then, her hair flapping in the wind. "Uday, you'll get into trouble if something happens to him!"
I am not invincible. But I know how to dispose of my enemies-and make sure no one ever knows.
"Uday, let go," she pleaded, encircling her arms around his waist."Please don't do this." In ordinary circumstances, Uday would have laughed at Maanyata's distress or pitied the fear she was going through, but he was overtaken by anger now, unable to see anything. He pummeled his fists into Akash's face, his heartbeat accelerating as he heard the crunch of bone against bone.
But I forgive. That's my biggest mistake-I always forgive.
"Uday," she said softly into his ears. As her arms moved around him, the murderous cloud on his mind dissipated and his hands relaxed. Akash stumbled to the ground, looking like more like the confused deer Uday had treated him like, and less like the full-grown adult he had been five minutes before.
"Uday," she said, and he pulled her arms closer around himself, like a blanket, even though he knew that her purpose was not to hug him but to pacify him enough to let her Majnu go. Even then he remained frozen, as if she had cast a spell over him.
He inhaled the scent of her skin, which was softly caressing his arms, and then let go of her. "Security!" he shouted briskly. A uniformed guard raced up, having already sprung into action on hearing Princess Maanyata's screams.
"Are you'll stupid?" he shouted angrily. "Letting this fellow in?"
"But Rajkumari Jai-" the guard began. "Sssh," Uday silenced him. The guard understood and led Akash away, who bawled "Monia! Monia" like a distressed baby.
He turned around and smiled at Monia. She automatically hugged him, and he took her into the comfort of his embrace. Once again he knew it was fear, not love, that had propelled her into his arms as she held onto his shoulders to steady her nerves. When she leant back, her arms were still shaking.
"Let's go Maanyata," he said, smiling. "We need to have dinner."
Maanyata nodded, swallowing back the tears that had wallowed in her eyes. You demon, she thought, looking at his joyous face. You beat up my Aakash so mercilessly. I'll never forgive you.
She grabbed hold of Uday's hand, giving him a fake grin and saying "I'm so glad you got rid of that irritating fellow."
Uday didn't respond. Maanyata involuntarily shivered, her pace slowing down as Uday took long, regal strides forward. It was as if he had robbed the heat from all the places where he had touched her, and spirited it away into his own heart.
