Uday. was surprised he hadn't ripped his hair out yet. He had orchestrated a brilliant surprise all for his lovely wife who was nowhere to be found. Neither was his sister for that matter. The only reply he'd gotten was via Unnati's sms saying ' we'll be there in a bit' ...that was two bloody hours ago.
He calmed himself down by saying at least both the favorite girls in his life were together...so they probably weren't in any sort of trouble. He looked around his room and saw the riot of colors the numerous flowers he had placed there caused. He was happy with what he had come up with. He would simply get his wife alone, and look in to her eyes and say 'I'm sorry' about as honestly as he could and if he knew Manya. that would probably touch her heart more than some grand, extravagant gesture. She knew her husband was not in habit of apologizing. Hopefully, she'd understand...he was trying to find ways of pleasing her because he cared.
His cellphone insistent rings broke him out of his reverie. It was someone from work. He sighed. This was going to take some time.
"You look gorgeous. Jay won't know where to hide and my brother will probably be stunned"Unnati said
"Thanks Un., I couldn't have done this without you. And speaking of gorgeous you look beautiful but you know what I like best about you...is that you're one of the few people i know whose heart is just as beautiful. Thanks for being my sister." Manya. said
"Ok stop or you're going to make me cry and then ruin this ridiculously expensive get up of ours. You ready to knock of the socks?"
"Ready."
"Then lets roll."
"D.S I was beginning to get worried" Uday. said as he greeted his wife's grandmother and the rest of her family as they arrived for the party.
"We were running a little late. Jay caused it asusual." D.S replied
Uday. smirked. Jay was beautiful in her own right but her beauty was only skin deep. There was nothing beautiful about her heart and that was something cosmetics couldn't help her with.
"Well... where is my daughter Uday.?" Uncle Brij asked
"She and Unnati have been gone all morning..prepping for the party. They are on their way here as we speak" Uday replied.
"That's not like Manya. , she usually doesn't make such a big deal about dressing up" Aunty Komal said joining in.
"Well, aunty the way I see it, it's actually a good thing. Manya. is beginning to realize that her position puts her in the spotlight and besides that ..if my wife wants to spend all day shopping with my sister , she can afford to. I want her to be happy here" Uday. said.
Aunty Komal smiled and said " My daughter is lucky to have you as a husband Uday. , I'm sure she'll realize it
soon"
Uday. smiled but before he could say anything a hush fell on the crowd. Why had everyone stopped speaking? he asked himself ad turned around to find the cause.
The most beautiful sight he had ever seen greeted him. It was Manya. but she looked different. Ethereal she appeared as if one touch and she would fade away. He felt his heartbeat slow as if he was in some sort of daze.
Manya. walked towards her family and Uday. alone. Unnati the sweetheart that she was said, she had to make the entrance alone if she wanted maximum effect. The girl had been right. As she entered the hall, everybody had turned quite and she felt her courage giving away slightly. But then Uday. had turned around and the expression on his face made everything worthwhile. She forgot all about revenge and saw only his eyes as she walked. Her heartbeat was fast, she was nervous and she had no idea why.
"Manya." D.S said and forced Manya. to break eye contact with her husband. "You look like a fairy my love"
"D.S thank you soo much. But now that I see you, I can tell where i get my fairy looks from" Manya. replied
And so it went. Every member of her family she met and greeted complimented her until she finally came to her husband.
"You look breath-taking. I think today you look more like a queen than my princess and I am in awe of Your Highness just like everyone else." Uday. said.
"Thank you." was all Manya. could manage to say.
" Well, it is customary for the hosts to take the first dance Your Highness. If you're willing shall we dance?"
Manya. nodded and floated towards the dance floor holding her husband's hand.
