Hello ManVeerians! So, here is the third installment. Please be aware that it is a bit of an anomaly, in the sense that the tone differs slightly from the other two parts. However, I am known for unending silences and drawn out details, so lets not get too happy! I'm just experimenting here and there.I also added in some translations to this one as there were a lot of dialouges thrown in (phew!). They are rough, so please don't mind me. And, as always, please excuse the mistakes and bring on the rotten eggs and tomatoes, and everything else!

Part 3

A hush of amazement spread across the faces of those who had noticed her entry at the grand dining area. Her eyes dissected the expression of each individual – from the overwhelmingly grateful smile of Mataji, to the mixture of shock and disgust lacing her sister's phony grin. Pausing at the latter, she adjusted the dupatta carefully over her shoulders and smiled sweetly at the man sitting adjacent to her. The expression on Jay's beautiful face told her that her sister had not missed a beat as her fingers had glided mockingly over the lemony veil.

"Vijay Bhai, humey zara pinch toh kijiye. Kahin hum koi sapna…" (VB, can you pinch me please. Am I perhaps dream...) Jay's sarcasm was sliced through with Vijay Bhai's timely announcement.

"Aaj ki taza khabar, jungle ki maharani ne badli party. Diya insaano ki duniya ho hilla…" (Breaking news, the queen of the wilderness has changed sides, shaking the world of humans...) His voiced trailed off as his mother sent a piercing glance his way.

Still holding the sweetness at her tongue, she addressed him a cool tone, "Woh kya hai na Vijay Bhai, jungle walon ne mujhe wahan se nikal diya. Unhe aap zyada pasand joh aagay teh." (The thing is VB, the jungle inhabitants kicked me out. They figured you suited the role much better than I.) She squirmed with inner delight as Vijay made a disgusted face, and turned mutely back to his food.

All eyes returned to the food that awaited in colourful arrays , and she felt her stomach rumble in envy of their heaped plates. Carefully maneuvering around Mataji's seat, she quickly dived into the chair opposite to the eyes that mirrored her existence. Her cheeks flared at the recollection of what had happened in the past few minutes.

Two weeks had passed since that incident, yet every time it crossed her thoughts, she felt his touch as though she were still there. He had disappeared to Jaigarh on the pretense of business, and she was mutely thankful and enraged. How dare he walk off like that after all that had happened? Catching herself off guard, she realized the question still lay unanswered, what had happened? She wanted to blame him, but she knew within her that her mask of innocence was also not sincere.

Turning her attention to the complicated choori-kaanta breakfast awaiting her, she decided it was about time that she addressed the mice running inside her stomach.

"Uncle Brij, humein aapse permission leni teeh." His conversational tone sliced trespassed through the invisible bubble of content that had at some point created itself around her.

"Ow," she bellowed, tasting the gush of salty blood as it poured from where she had bit the inside of her cheek. Khasma noon khana, she thought with agitation. There was a distinct pause in the air, and she realized with embarrassment that they were all looking at her.

"Kya hua beta, aap teekh toh hain?" (What's wrong dear, are you alright?) Her heart froze in immense warmth as she stared at Maharani Komal. The worry lacing her mother's voice could be traced even by a mute person.

"Beta?" Startled outside of the unexpected coziness, she looked around again to witness the confused, concerned, and blatantly annoyed expressions.

Wrapping her hands around the glass of water before her, she quickly brought it to her mouth and took a large sip. Sips. "Haan… woh, bas, kuch atak gaya tah." (Nothing, something just got stuck) Realizing how lame her excuse sounded, she held the glass to her mouth again, letting it linger there, without any flow of water entering her throat.

A pause ensued, and she felt her eyes lower in self-consciousness. Hai marjaniye, she thought to herself with irritation. An unheard thanks escaped her as Briraj's throaty voice boomed into the awkwardness, shattering it to bits.

"Haan toh Uday beta, aapko kis baat ki permission chahiye teeh ?" (So, Uday Dear, what did you need my permission for son?) Her father looked sincerely upon the monster that met her gaze through the glass, still prisoner to her fingers.

"Hum Manyata ko drive par lejana chahtey hain," (I would like to take Manyata for a drive) he told the air passing heatedly between him and her. While he spoke to Brijraj, his eyes held hers. His tone was flat, undoubtedly challenging. A million and one vibrant words raced through her mind… titles, not words. Titles she had assigned to her so-called fianc, the one who was now bearing witness to the most vicious glare her muscles could conjure.

She was furious at his change of skin. How can someone be so inconstant? But there was no time to mull over it, was there? From the periphery of her vision, she caught the smile and nod of affirmation Brijraj passed to him. Her heart sunk to the pit of her suddenly over-filled stomach making her feel slightly nauseous.

***

"Princess?"

Irritated already, she absentmindedly grabbed hold of the soft square sitting next to her and aimed it in the direction of the door.

"Daffa ho ja yahan se, mujhe nahin jaana tere saath kahin bhi." (Get lost, I don't want to go anywhere with you) Her voice echoed the stifling annoyance she felt at him.

She could sense him catch her pathetic attempt at dismissal and scrunch it between his fingers. Her body twitched unknowingly as he crumpled the tenderness of the cushion.

"Tsk tsk Princess, itni bhi kya narazgi. Hum kahan aapko aise hi utah kar le chale hain. Ba-kaida Uncle Brij se ijazat li hai humne." (... why the grief. Not like I am abducting you. I have sought Uncle Brij's rightful permission) His voice was becoming closer, and she noticed the sink in the mattress as his made himself comfortable in front of her. She was sulking, and the last thing she needed right now, was the comfort of him, the source of all of her discomforts.

And after what appeared to be a deliberate pause, he again, gingerly scrunched the object mercy to his fingers. "Haan, agar aap chahti hain ke hum aapko utah kar le chalein… isme bhi humey koi problem nahin hai." (However, if you want me to sweep you away... I don't have any problem with that either) She wasn't looking at him yet, but she could bet her life on the fact that the last bit of his words were dipped in a signature Udayveer smirk. Her insides churned in disbelief.

"Tu na…" She was about to give him a piece of her mind, lifting her finger to his face, when she felt his hands encase hers mid-action. His touch was playfully gentle, but the firmness in their grasp did not go unnoticed by her prickly skin. You are the greatest paradox of my life. The thought came to her so quickly, she was not sure if it had even occurred. Surely, she would not give such importance to this prick, who was hell bent on making her life miserable. She made a face, pulling her hand away with zest, determined not to let him win.

As she went around the bed, turning away from him, she faintly caught his frame plunging backwards into the softness of where she dreamt at night. It irked her, the way he made himself comfortable in every space of hers. At times, she was forced to think of where her space really was. She hated how easily he fit into everything. Despised it, from the depths of her heart, she seethed.

Lifting her hands in hopeless agony, she drew in a deep breath. "Main kooay mein chalang laa kar marjaoongi, par tere saath kahin nahin jaoongi." (I will gladly take a dive into a well and succumb to my death before going anywhere with you) And for an added touch, she swiveled on her feet to face him, "Haan…" The words trailed into the far distance as she found herself slightly off balance in the face of his looming presence in front of her.

"… nahin toh…" he finished off her thoughts. Just like that. There it was again, she stared in wonder and mounting infuriation… that damned half grin. She wanted to shovel something into his mouth, rub it in and shove it down his throat.

"nahin toh…" She caught on to the question mark hidden at the end of it this time. Blinking in a series of delayed reactions, she realized her wrist was encased in his hand. Shaking it away, she took a conscious step backwards, and turned her burning face away.

"Sach keh rahi hoon main," (I'm telling the truth) she stated matter-of-factly.

Again, a pause instilled in the chaos unleashed into the room. At some point, his feet had directed themselves so that now he stood right behind her. The heat of his breathing burned her skin, and she resisted the urge to move. He can't win, she thought even as her knees entered phase one in their betrayal.

"Princess, aap jahan bhi koodne jaayein, hum hain na neechey… aapko bachaane, humesha ki tarah." (Princess, where ever you wish to take a dive... I will be there before you, for your protection. As always) The whisper of his words echoed against the deaf walls of her mind, alarming them into sound.

For a moment, she stood still in bewilderment. And then exhaled, turning to face him.

Compiling a thickly packed bag of curses, she hurled it at him with all she could muster. "Kameeney, keedey, halkat, vedey, sadey huey kele ke chilkey, khasma nu khaaney, marjaaney… Tujhe aur koi kaam nahin hai kya?" Her whole body shook with the effort, as if it were blazing in temperature.

... And then came the icey waters, as always, leaving her dumbfounded.

As expected, his teeth peeped out at her from the cover of his grin. He took a quiet step back and extended his right hand over the part of his chest where his heart should be beating. I wonder what really residers there? Aimlessly, the thought welled up from somewhere within her and her eyes widened.

A smoldering expression of content etched into his facial features. "Ah… Princess. Jab aap itne keemti shabdon se humey nawazti hain, toh hume ehsaas hota hai… Ke hum aapki zindagi mein kitni ehmiyat rakhte hain." (... When you grace me with such precious words, I realize... that I have such a special place in your life)

Preview:

"Dekh Udaybeer, baat sirf drive taq hui teeh," (Listen UV, the deal was only regarding a drive out) she tossed a warning glance at him. Cursing herself inwardly, she noticed the tremour in her finger as it aimed falteringly at his unaffected persona.

The squeal of the tires burst into the air as the machine carrying them came to an abrupt stop.

"Baat toh poori umar ki bhi hui hai... wifey."

Cheers,

dc
