She looked at her Cartier wrist watch for the millionth time. And she ordered a sweet lime to the bartender for the nth time. The music , the laughter , the sounds were getting on her nerves now. And why every other man and woman had to look at her and smile at her? Fine, she may have transformed from an untidy crass chawl tramp to a sweet-mouthed, Chanel attired , straight silky haired Princess who even slips her feet into Jimmy Choos in style but she STILL hated the attention. But then, this wasn't going to last long , right? She would be free of all this attention, media glare , spotlight and the weight of the crown by tomorrow morning. She was running away! But this time forever and in style with a fool proof plan. She knew she was a bad planner , so this time , she had the master planner , the master manipulator Prince Udayveer by her side. He would help her in running away to Aakash and everything will be taken care of. Well, Udayveer had promised that and she trusted him. Trusted him. A smile escaped Maanyata's smile as she connected trust and Udayveer with each-other. She looked at her ring finger ' a brilliant solitaire sat glittering there. The proof, the reminder and the stamp of her engagement to Udayveer.
Maanyata ( sipping the sweet lime )- Me and that tharak-ka-peepa are gonna go down in history. A fiance helps his fiancee in eloping.
Maanyata laughed to herself and just then, she saw J come and sit next to her as she ordered a Martini for herself. Maanyata's smile disappeared and she rolled her eyes while J gave her a scanning look.
J ( tilting her head )- Smile Maanyata Jeeji. You are sitting in your to-be-husband's restro bar. People know that you are his fiance , so at least put up a smile.
Maanyata ( looking at the entrance )- J, please go and find some other way of entertaining yourself. I am waiting for Udayveer.
J ( sounds stung )- Seriously? Why would you need to wait for him, Queen -to- be? He is yours already .You snatched him away from me.
Maanyata's temper flared up at her thick-headed sister's last remark and she almost slammed the glass on the bar.
Maanyata ( clicking her fingers in J's face )- Jaynandini!Get your facts right , first! I did not snatch anyone from you. UV was always my fianc ! Even when I was not there , so you don't talk about me taking him from you! And if he loved you , he would be with you! Not me! Get it?
J was slightly taken aback by Maanyata's anger. It was regular for the cold siblings to take jabs at each-other but whenever it came to fighting over UV, Maanyata turned a possessive tigress and she really destroyed the opposition. As in destroyed Jaynandini.
Before J could retort , she felt a hand on her shoulder and both the sisters looked up. Udayveer was looking at J, amused and then, he looked at Maanyata and slightly shook his head to stop her from saying anything more.
Maanyata ( relieved and calming down on seeing him )- I thought I will end up raiding your bar and you are never going to show up!
J( getting up)-Gah! Continue your love coo-coo you two! Am off'.( taking a jibe at Udayveer)' sit in her lap!
Udayveer ( small grin as he nods at the bartender to get his usual )- Oh come on, J'..(puts a protective arm around her shoulder )'.Maanyata sitting in my lap is a sexier idea, don't you think so?
Maanyata feels a shiver under her skin and she stamps her Jimmy Choo on UV's foot but he keeps grinning at J.
J( frustrated)- Damn! Burn in hell you two!
J picks her drink and goes back to her gang , without looking back. Maanyata shrugs her shoulder a little , looking up at UV's face and blinking her eyes and he gets the message. He rolls his eyes and removes his hand from her shoulder.His drink arrives and he sits next to her.
Udayveer ( smiling at the women who are giving him furtive glances )- Chill , madam. If my touching you would do anything to you , you would have been pregnant by now!...( sips his drink)'. All the designer clothes and spa treatments can't change your 'ghaateepann'.
Maanyata ( narrowing her eyebrows at him )- And all the Princely Charm can't hide your 'kameenapann'! I thought we were friends now!
Udayveer looks at her and then, gently lifts her hand and shows it to her.
Udayveer ( touching the engagement ring )- You and I can never be friends.
Maanyata looked at his selfishly sexy black pupils and she felt she saw something flicker in them. But before she could figure out what , he winked at her and smiled , dropping her hand.
Udayveer ( looking all around and not at her )- Don't look at me like that, Princess. I am not used to women looking at me.
Maanyata ( directly )- Then?
Udayveer ( with a mean mean grin )- I am used to women falling for me''.( looks into her eyes )'. But you broke my heart!
Maanyata felt a sudden knot in her heart and she stiffened up , turning cold and business like.
Maanyata ( clearing her throat )- What's the plan?
Udayveer ( with his royal swagger )- I pick you up at 11am tomorrow telling Dadisa that am taking you to our family heritage house in Baandhavgarh, to see some old relatives. Then we travel to Khandala and'. ( pauses as he feels struck by something inside him but takes a deep breath to kill it)' And' take you to your Majnu'..oopsie, doopsie, your Aakash. Then, I come back, do a whole emotional drama of how you broke my heart , marry'..(doesn't want to finish the sentence)'.
Maanyata ( looking at his face with a deep tender look that she is unaware of)- Marry Jaynandini and get your powerseat''right?
Udayveer shakes his head and keeps looking at the dancing reflection of lights in the pool.
Udayveer( looking like a little lost boy )- No'.I will not marry Jaynandini.
Maanyata ( jumping out of the seat in shock but feeling a strange happy flutter inside)- WHAT? Why not? How will you get the powerseat , the capital, the political clout that you want?
Udayveer( smiles at her )- Maybe marry some other Princess'.but I will not marry anyone connected to you.
Maanyata ( angrily )- Such a gadhaa, khotaa, khacchar you are! What will you get out of this deal then? I get Aakash but you will lose everything!
Udayveer ( shrugs his shoulders )- Do I even look like I care, Maanyata? Am Prince Udayveer and am not supposed to care about anything.
Maanyata ( softly )- Why are you helping me , then?
Udayveer( gets up and playfully punches her cheek)- Because you are the first and the last woman I don't want to ruin!... Now, don't ask me why.
Maanyata ( taking his hand away from her cheek )- Uday, please, please , please behave like a dog'..( UV narrows his eyebrows at her )'.i hate this ' this side of you! It makes me , it makes me want to do something to you! You are the bad guy! So, please stay the bad guy!
Udayveer( nods )- I know I am the bad guy'.or'. ( smoothly transforms back into his predator self)'. Or tharak-ka-peepa as you call me! Too bad , I didn't get to sleep with you.
Maanyata looks at his hard arrogant grinning face and she gulps something down her throat.
Maanyata ( with a sad smile)- 3 months ago , I would have broken your jaw for saying something like this'..( she holds his hands hesitantly and looks at his pensive face)' I have never said this to anyone, Udayveer but I think I will miss you. Miss abusing you , slapping and punching you '..damn! I will miss everything about you! '..
UV looks down at her little fair hands cradling his hands. He gathers himself and snatches his hands away from hers. He steps away from her.
Udayveer( deeply )- But I will not miss you. I will never miss you. I will forget that I ever met you'.( turns on his heels and looks away)'. Be ready by 9am tomorrow.
Udayveer didn't look back again and he slowly walked out of the noisy place.Maanyata's eyes followed him until she could see him no more. She stood rooted to the spot. The reality hit her now. She would never see her kutta-kameena again after tomorrow. Just then, the bartender's voice cut through the silence of her heart.
Bartender ( concerned )- Madam? You okay?
Maanyata ( rudely )- Why? Do I look sloshed to you?
Bartender ( hesitantly offering her a tissue )- I thought you needed this'..( points to her face )'..your eyes'.
Realization struck her as she touched her face and felt her wet cheeks. There were tears rolling down her face and there was a silence in her heart that wanted to scream out. Her impulse right now was to go after UV and smash his face. Why? She didn't know or maybe she was too scared to know.
