Chapter One: In Plain Sight

Rajmata Mirnalini Devi was a woman who was blessed with a very imposing personality. She ran her estate like a well-oiled machine. Nothing went past her eyes; she knows and sees all that goes on in her house and her estate. Losing her husband at a very young age and left with a son who was still a baby she had to take over her husband's duties which made her very sensitive to everything. For her duty always came first. The traditions, pride, values and dignity were her three key words. All the responsibilities of her huge estate made her a bit harsh in her actions. Royalty in India was still a male dominated society at that time. Now the times have changed her hard set of rules and keen sense of business has made her the head of Royal Association of India. She taught the values of being a royal to her son who was the successor to the estate. Her son King Brijraj being the sole heir was a bit arrogant and pompous but he never got derailed from his duties. Now Rajmata's family included a son, a daughter in law and two granddaughters. But duty sometimes makes relationships harder.

Only decision that Mirnalini Devi took with her heart rather than her mind was when she had to send her oldest granddaughter, apple of her eye, away from her. It is often said that grandchildren are more precious to people than their own children and this was totally true in her case. Her oldest granddaughter was to be the heir after her father that put her life in real danger. There were constant attacks on the little princess since she was born so, to save her Rajmata sent her away with her very loyal servant and told the world that she was kidnapped. Ofcourse, she kept tabs on her granddaughter but no one in the family was allowed to contact her. She just wanted to hide her little princess from harm's way but also wanted her close to herself. She was sent to a little town in Devgarh where she grew up like just another ordinary girl. But no matter what the exterior is the blue blood is too strong to let anyone win. Her little princess has forgotten her real identity but the spark she carried with her was of a princess.

When Rajmata was looking at her granddaughter's latest picture the other apple of her eye was busy partying in a hot shot club in London. Prince Udayveer is technically the oldest grandson in law of Devgarh. This alliance was fixed when he was nine and Manyata was five. The after their engagement she got kidnapped. This alliance made him really irresistible among ladies. He was single and engaged at same time. This alliance made it really easy for him to come out of a relationship or slip into one. He knew his looks, money and title are his advantages and he had enough brains to use them to his needs. Ladies called him "Prince Perfect" and media called him "Prince Beastly". Uday is fine with both the titles. It kept his mark on the place when he was not there. He is wicked combination of brashness and responsibility. Nothing makes him falter from his duties. His father King Giriraj believes that it is influence of Rajmata's teachings on him. Uday has lost his mother in young age and after Manyata got kidnapped Uday got her share of love from Rajmata and Komal, Manyata's mother. He was considered the son of two families Devgarh and Jaigarh.

Udayveer is known as a man of no weakness but there is a law of nature that everyone has a weakness. Uday's weakness is his baby sister Unnati. He loved her to the core of existence. He replaced the place of a mother in Unnati's life. His baby sister got everything without asking, her every whim was fulfilled without any qualms. But even with all that pampering she became the most down to earth person of the royal family. She was as Uday said in his own words the only girl in the world whom he can tolerate more than two hours. She was also in a way Uday's concise. She was person who kept the human alive so that the beast in him does not take over. She knew her brother was a pleaser and a sweet talker. She just not have to let the responsibilities of a prince and her own brother's ambition take over his softer side, his real side which he works so hard on suppressing. Right now Unnati saw her Dada dancing with one of his flames. It was two in the morning so she decided to intervene.

"Dada kal aapki architect ke saath meeting hai humaare naaye hotel ke liye'humme lagta hai ab hume chalna chahiye", she said smiling at her brother.

Uday gave his sister a very annoyed look and then sighed, "you are right'lets go," he turned to the girl he was dancing with and whispered in her ear, "Tomorrow night at my place sweetheart." Smiling he left with Unnati to the penthouse of his hotel.

"Dada you are sometimes too much'I don't want any random girl in my penthouse'I hope you understand" Unnati declared to her brother.

"Jaisa aap kahe princess." Uday agreed without a qualm. They both knew Uday will do what he wants to do no matter what happens or who tells him to stop.

The meeting with the architect was frustrating as usual. It was quite hard to meet the standards of Prince Udayveer but he knew how to get what he wanted.

"I want the resto bar to have a feeling of a club and we need a bigger spa. This hotel is going to be a recreational of rich and spoiled. They would come here to unwind the so called stress that comes from too partying. The spa and resto bar are the USP of this hotel." Uday explained his points to his team again.

"I get it Uday but for a bigger spa we need to cut down the room capacity," Marcus the architect explained.

"Room capacity will not change'I am not going to compromise on comfort Marcus, you need to find a way to fix this," Udayveer got disturbed when his cellphone rang. It was Dadi Sa so he answered. After the greetings what Dadi Sa told him shook the very core of his existence. He told Marcus to work on the spa and resto bar and left the office telling his assistant to make arrangements for his and Unnati's flight to India.

The flight to India was very tense. Unnati could not understand what was wrong with her Dada. She has never seen him that shaken. She sensed incomprehensiveness in him. Her Dada never got that rattled by anything. This is something huge. When she had him he simply said this was Dadi Sa's order. He said that in such a final tone that she had no courage to ask him any further questions. She was told to go their palace and Uday went to see Dadi Sa. The commotion was making her really worried.

When Uday reached the Devgarh palace he directly went to Dadi Sa's study. Today he was not in the mood of traditional welcomes. He was running a little low on patience. He burst into the study, looked straight into Rajmata's eyes and asked, "Kya yeh sach hai hukum?"

Rajmata looked at him and then smiled he only called her Hukum when he was mad at some of her decisions. He was the most defiant kid, always wanted to do things his way. She had taught him diplomacy herself and watching him now confront her with such cool manner made her proud. She retaliated his stare, "Baith jaayiye Udayveer' aisi baatien aaram se baith kar ki jaaye to acha rehta hai."

Uday sat in the chair opposite to her, "woh hamesha yahi thi...hamaari aankhon ke samne Dadi Sa aur aapne hume kabhi bataya hi nahi. Hum hamesha yeh sochte rahe ki unka kidnap ho gaya'lekin aapne ton humari dulhan ko chuppa kar rakha tha."

"Uday beta uss waqt haalat hi kuch aise the ki humaare paas koi aur option hi nahi tha. Humme Manyata ki jaan bachane ka jo raasta nazar aaya hum chun liya. Hum Manyata ko khud se door nahi kar sakte the, lekin unhe saath rakna bhi mehfoos nahi tha issi liye humne unhe Murari ke saath bhej diya. Hum unhe apne paas nahi rakh sakte the par door se unhe dekh to sakte the. And it was important that everyone believed that Manyata was kidnapped so that these people left her alone. Sometimes the best place to hide someone is in plain sight," Rajmata explained.

"toh phir ab kya ho gaya Hukum?" Uday asked, "Aap ab humme ye kyun bata rahi hain?"

"Kyunki ab un logon ne Manyata ko doondth liya hai. Murari ne humme bataya ki kuch hafton te koi Manyata par lagataar humle kar raha hai. She will be 21 soon. I want her to come back to the palace. But now I am getting old Uday and I want your help to bring her home and keep her safe. Aap humari madat karenge na Uday?" Rajmata asked with hopeful eyes.

If Manyata comes back he will become the official son of this family and with it will come all the power. But he does not even know what she looked like? Uday's brain did a quick calculation, "Yes ofcourse Dadi Sa'hum aapki madat zaroor karenge."
