It depends on who the person is and what their views are. Alot of NRI parents want their children to learn about the culture and expose them more to it. Being away from the country, also arouses a sense of patriosm, which provokes the children into learning more about their country and to follow the culture closely. I think major part of people becoming more "modern" is def exposure to movies, which is part of everyday lives. Not as many NRI's watch as many movies. But then again other factor's contribute to how closely you are to your country. It really depends on one's family, thinking, and how much they are attached to their country.

i was born in canada and my parents are from india, it seems to me people go after what they dont have, like indians in india becoming westerized and nri's tyring to preserve there heritage.

the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, that basically what this is.
