They call "Chak De India" as the inspiration for the current morale of the team, they bring SRK to promote the feelings evoked by Chak De, yet they are unable to appreciate the small point it made - that the players belong and play for INDIA - not for Chandigarh, Karnataka, Sikkim or Delhi.

However, if Modi does not pay the boys any honararium on account of their religion, its a shame.

GM, If we check the movie plot, there too you will see that local news paper were boosting their players.

Even in cricket it was said Karachi pur ranchi bhari......now each player was not from ranchi only the captain was. But it is an expression. It does not make Ranchi or karachi more special any way other then that one of the player is from there. And Ranchi if feels proud, then nothing wrong and we are proud of Ranchi too.and we are proud of their family for raising such wonderful kids too. Now neither Ranch nor their parents are out of India.

To congratulate them by their locals is nothing wrong we all are proud of them

Why are we blaming the government and the politicians? Why don't we look at ourseleves? How many of us were here on the forum discussing the Asia Cup final as it was being played? We took the thread from 40-odd pages to more than a 100 pages (loads of spamming included 😉) when it was cricket, and all we had was a few congratulatory messages for the Asia Cup victory.

The concept of state-based rewards is inherently flawed as pointed out by Priya. Imagine, Ajit Agarkar getting 10 lakhs for sheer non-performance, and Sreesanth getting just half of that amount. If the state governments did want to reward the team - they should have pooled all the resources and divided it equally among the entire team.

PS - Just saw on tv - 5 lakhs each to Irfan and Yusuf by Gujarat government - guess they remembered the elections round the corner 😉

😆😆😆 aankh khul gayi 😆

Wow Sowmya, so nice to see you after such a l o n g time....😊

Mr.Modi has always been a whipping boy of "secular" media...I am not surprised to see such an article. Media is trying its level best to see that he loses next elections....this is a part of their campaign.

Why media did not report that Tamil Nadu govt has also not announced anything for Dinesh Karthik and Robin Singh...

BTW, Gujarat govt did announce a reward for Pathan Bros an hour ago...

Sweta, why don't you create a seperate thread on that topic...😊

It is really shameful to see other sports getting such pathetic treatment from Govts/Media. I remember after the Asia Cup win not a single hockey player was called by any channel, instead they had Chak De girls in their studios...🤢

Kisi ne 5 Rupye tak nahin diye team ko...

http://www.ibnlive.com/news/hockey-players-to-protest-stepmo therly-treatment/49391-5-23.html

Carvalho said, "When KPS Gill announced Rs 1,000 as bonus for every goal that was scored, many people in authority, including a few politicians made a hue and cry and ridiculed the (Indian Hockey) Federation".

What a SHAME...Rs. 1000 for every goal...isse bhadda mazaak hockey players ke saath to ho hi nahin sakta. 😡

Politicians like Narendra Modi and Karunadhi are two faces of the same coin. They would do anything to disrupt the harmony of our country and fill their vote banks using that. It is a pity that people fall for it repeatedly and make an issue out of their deplorable acts.

My view on this prize money issue is that if it is Ranji trophy then states rewarding their players make sense. In this case since it was a match on international level the prize money and that too for undeserving ones like Agarkar doesn't make any sense at all. State govts. should bestow sports awards to their state players instead of wasting money like this. $2 million for the team itself is a big amount. Sreeshant from a smaller state Kerala gets 5 lakhs whereas Agarkar from a bigger state Maharashtra gets 10 lakhs for just showing up on the field. What an irony!😆

I am glad Hockey found a new lease after Chak De India. It is our sport federation's job to bring Hockey, our national game to the level of Cricket and make it as appealing. It is tough though because of not having similar international events, which makes Cricket more prominent.

Yes. I read about hockey team. It is really unfair on them. Sport is a sport and all should be treated by government as same in terms of recognition.

Someone pointed out about how "we" (as a country) also love and prefer to watch cricket more. I think that cannot be controlled much. Love for certain sport is each fan's personal perference. And if whole nation loves cricket there is no harm in showing their enthusiasm. But government shoudl treat all same.

Well, yeah looks like Mr. Modi thought about comming election and decided to contribute. That's the thing its all politics and articles like such then create hard feelings among common community people. So sad.
