Is not greeting strangers rude?

I would say when in Rome, be like Romans😃. In US it is fine to wish a stranger so no harm in it. In India we don't yet wish strangers but the trend is changing and a smile is mostly welcome.

One of my friends smiled at some guys sitting next to her in a bus b/c she was trying to be polite. Yuh that didn't go so well

Whaaaaat... Girl smiled at guy and guy didn;t like it.... r u sure... it was a guy and not a gay?😆😆

😆 hehe Rutu, been there, done that, was embarrassed to mention, but what the hell! I admit it now. Something tells me you also have a first hand experience 😆.

It bugs me that some desis stare and stare and stare more to glory (men and women with different expression 😛), but do not work their levator labii superioris and others.. when you look back in thier eyes.
Helllo!!!! You stared anyway as if someone were a painting, then atleast give them a smile dude / dudette!

There are 2 segments of people...one who stare at you like you are an alien the second who feel really good but just get too confounded to respond. You can just feel the redness on their visage.😃

Greeting strangers is always beneficial, helps in networking, but am very skeptical of desis striking up conversation in a mall. 8/10 times you will get a call and find out it is about Amway

Greeting or smiling at someone you are faced with in elevator, party halls or grocery store register lines is acknowledging their existence and does wonders to both by bringing cheer to rather monotonous moments.

All non familial relationships and friendships have started when someone greeted or smiled at a stranger..😛 My best friend is someone I met 15 years ago at doctor's office when our doctor introduced us and it turned out we were from the same neighborhood.!!!

That said however , I would never exchange my phone# with someone I met at the mall or grocery store. I don't know why some desis look the other way when you look them in the eye when they have been staring at you for 5 mins..!!!

Last week as my hubby and I were on our evening walk , saw new Indian neighbors in a house that had been vacant for a while so we went up to their property and greeted them. Turned out we have mutual friends and he happens to be CIO of well known finance company. Not all associations turn out to be great though, as there are all kinds of people around but the ones that count the most happen to have stemmed from a smile and a greeting only.. I think first impressions and gut feelings must never be under estimated.

Exactly... same world to share might as well acknowledge the presence.

Even I wonder, initially I used to pass smile or greet but after getting back staight face one to many times... detesting in doing the same unless there is chance of ackn. I know its wrong karam katey rahoo fal ki iccha mat karo but come on yaar... whats with the atitude or is it related to desi's being in some kind of complex.
