I am a new in this DM. My point is that if you can communicate your message to other without any problem, that is all we need. Once you start living in different country with different language, if you have a little common sense, you can learn the new language. We should not put pressure on kids to learn their mother tongue. I am sure if they think they need to learn they will.

reminds of this situation and i would like to ask you guys, how many of you have experienced a desi talking to you in your language in a non desi setting and as soon as a desi sits by you or you are in a desi setting such as resturant or a certain place, the person with you pretends that he/she doesnt know hindi at all and tries to speak english or nothing at all 😡

All the time Raunaq, all the time 😡

O how very much I detest these people... People who are comfortable with their identities usually don't do this. I start shouting in Gujarati in the middle of the road to some of my desi friends and they are just like 😲. They get totally embarassed, but WTH! And this same people whould talk in Hin-Guj with me when no one is around but when some other Indian drops in, it's all like, "So, what were ya sayin'?"

Idiots 🤢

agree with you that kids should not be pressurized but exposing them to their mother tongue at home is utmost important so that they can at least understand it real well. In my home, we both speak to each other and to our kids in Hindi most of the time right from the time they were born. Needless to say, they understand it perfectly....they just goof up on muhawarey and ab, tab, jab, kab😆 but that makes their spoken hindi oh so cuteeeee😆
