Good topic ANGEL.

Nothing will be mandatory because a lot rides on trust still. If you asked me, so much is doctored and fabricated in india, that i wudn't trust the teste results for AIDS either unless I do the test myself 😆

Thalassemia screening I thought was done already. i am unaware of prenatal services in india.

As for horroscope matching, nvmd.. to each their own.

Me agrees with QT on the trust bit.
First you actually go to that lab, then you get your first look at the needle! N then you know that thing is going into your skin 😲...and then by fluke if they manage to find your vein in the first shot without pricking a few more places .....they draw blood! And after all this, if the tests are not reliable....or someone mixes up the reports ahem....or the needle is krap.....I mean IMAGINE! 😕

lol j/k....mmm I think its necessary in todays world, but the labs, the equiment, the hygiene, the trust...everything comes into play.

Very important but should not be mandatory. Getting married is a personal choice, then why should a pre-requisite be made not personal? A lot runs on the trust factor and so compulsions might create problems for few then solving them.

About thalassemia, I do think it should be compulsory. But more than that, parents should understand what it is about. Laws never work, but awareness does. I am sure if parents knew what the consequences of thalassemia are, they won't mind going through it to ensure child's safety, of course, that depends of economical stability. For those who are not capable enough, some sort of a fund should be set to help these peeps.

Do you think that HIV test should be made compulsory ?

Do you think that a thalsemia test should also be conducted so that the offsprings are safe from these diseases ?

Isnt these more important than matching horoscopes ?

Wow! thats a very nice topic!!

Considering HIV infection can be no self fault thing, then why should one be punished? but how does this get evaluated that its no fault.

Doesn't asking for HIV test before marraige, question trust of info provided?

Does HIV infected people are some kind of criminals? Its a disease How does one compare GUY/GAL A infected by HIV, no fault VS GUY/GAL who was involved with many people but got lucky ??

Still on safer side on a arraaged marraige nice point to consider. :)

Okay; I will pay the few thousand; what about millions of POOR people, who can not afford the tests? Will the govt. cough up the money for it? And it is so easy to make laws in India, but nobody implements them, and even if they are, people find a way around it.

Persy

Oh.. for the crowds I said nothing can be made mandatory. I agree that very few believe in abiding by the laws.

On a personal level, I would much rather be safe. But again, I expressed my trust issue 😆.

In a democracy, you cannot make any kind of a medical test compulsory, for most who value their personal liberties that is a voilation of their personal space by the govt.

In a democracy when people were compelled to take vaccinations for small pox and such diseases to eradicate it and 'hum do hamare do' slogan was forced down (unsuccessfully) then what is wrong in making HIV tests compulsory?

The cost of taking care and curing such patients is much more expensive that making the test compulsory.

It is still a serious matter in countries like India that hospitals sometimes reuse needles. A friend of mine in India always carry her own needle for any blood work😆

that is the sad part of people living in democracy, their sense of civic duty should make them do this, if they dont feel compelled, they shouldnt be forced, it is their body remember!!!(the line is so frequently used in Abortion debate).

Govt can open up free clinics for testing, but no compulsion, if it extends to compulsion Govt is extending into area's it is not supposed to be in(actually in a democratic country's constitution there are specific mentions to keep Govt out of all this), if the govt is so inclined to help perhaps they can work to get the medication in place for people who want it and need it that would be more helpful.

This is pretty much a republican/democrat debate, where one has an ideology to expand into each and every facet of human life and mess it up royally and other has an ideology to not interfere into people's lives unless specifically asked to😃

I would say in love marriage it is easier. For arranged marriage if you ask for HIV test then the elders of the family will give you a tight slap. 😆
