Hello people!

Well everyone has their own sweet or sour way of handling their kids and disciplining them. Im sure every parent loves their kids the most. But these naughty little ones do get into trouble in the discipline arena ....n then

Psychologists urge parents to understand the bad or cranky behaviour of kids. To sit with them and ask them their issues or problems. Some rules are laid down for teachers and parents to identify issues and some are given guidance for handling them in difficult situations. But in the West especially, they dont believe in whacks or beating the kids. Some dont even believe in small or big punishments cus they feel its humiliating for the kids.

But the place where I come from ahem, mum n dadz do believe in some shudh pure desi ghee rattas and fatkas and some smalltime or bigtime whacks to discipline the kids

Somehow, I tend to agree with the way my mum n dad have brought me up. Its been a combination of crazy amount of love, sometimes some deserving whacks and sometimes just plain old scolding....

What do you think is or would be the right way?

i dont think there is justification for smacking children. It teaches them unnecessary violunce and makes them more agressive. other sorts of punishments (time-out for toddlers and taking away privlages for older children) work much better in getting the parent's point across and disciplining the child

I've noticed that white children, are more out of hand, compared to all others, because hitting is believed to be abuse. I've seen white kids who swear at their parents, and have no respect for them, and I blame their parents because that is the way they have been brought up. Though, Im not saying that hitting makes a child do the right thing, because some become rebellious and go totally opposite of what they're told, atleast behind their parents back.

IMHO, I think that children need to know where the line will be drawn, and to discipline a child, you need to ensure that s/he completely understands you. Some are naughty beyond measure, others understand even without anything else needed. He/She should know that there are consequences, and they will be carried out. Otherwise, the leeway given makes them disobey from ages as young as 2. Early in life, it should be made clear to the child that they are expected to be disciplined, because they wont change overnight. At sometimes though, I think talk makes alot more difference too, because understanding why you are doing the things you are and the need for it, makes you do them more because you want to, and not because you are made to.

In my case, I've been hit by my mother, and even though I may not have liked it at the time, it later starts making all the difference in your life, because you see the difference between yourself and other people.

On a lighter note, I'm sure many of you have seen stand-up by Russel Peters where he talks about beating your children. Here's the link if you want to check it out:

Hmm, I think we already had this once in DM
But a smack in a loving home sometimes is required . As long it is not an abuse, it is fine

I think you are totally right. Although no kid likes the wacking from their parents, it is a good idea for it to happen if they misbehave. They will then understand, and maybe even fear, the beating and not commit whatever they did again.
Also, kids should also understand that if their parents beat them, it is not something to hate them for. In fact, they should understand that their parents beat them because they love their kids.

I am all for beating the children, however, there should be some limits. In America, if the parents beat the children, it is not considered child abuse. However, if the child recieves such a hard beating that a cut or any various mark appears on their skin, then it can become a child abuse case. So, keeping that in mind, beating is okay to some extent.

I hope my answer fulfills your question. It is a good topic to talk about. Thanks for bringing it up! 👏
