But what do we do for parents who live in places where education is affordable but not enough to make the girl child financially independent. And you have four girl children in the house. What happens then?

About giving bribe, we pay commissions for premium processin where we do not want to do the work ourselves. How is that different from bribing.

👏 👏 👏 very nice about asking the guests of not bringing in the gifts, but don't you think people would take offense since in certain culture giving gifts is a custom? i know this is off topic

can you give the example of places where education is affordable but they dont have enough money to make child financially independent? there are places where education is affordable and they get every chance to make themselves financially independent. it is possible. it takes time but whats the hurry to get the daughter married off to a guy who demands dowry.

Instead, she deserves to marry someone who loves her for who she is, not for what her pop is giving 😉. Cutting line and putting money underhand to some guy supposed to provide service to everyone in line - is denying right to others asking for similar processing. No comparison there.

this is so right, i wanted to comment about the line issue 😆 😆 😆 people have to make line and service should be provided on the basis of first come first serve basis which unfortunately doesnt happen everywhere a guy who flaunts money gives the money, cuts the line and gets the service done thus make other people disadvantaged

LOLS... I agree thats the whole focus. Yeah luck is factor, but if going through agents thier fees factor the bribe part.

Paying extra for quick turn around is basically what we term as PREMIUM processing, lols - nothing wrong in that unless authorities realize and work in accordance so that extra cash goes in the right place. Right place😕 😆

Well said Raj... Recent news about legalising 12 million undocumented workers in the USA after paying $5K each = $60B is called win win situation. 😃

There are circumstances or norms in life that forces you to take actions that are not right ideally but you anyways you take it as it is required by working societal structure.

Scenarios:

1. Even thought one is against bribe but give it to police clearing ur passport to get approval for them in 1 month as comapred to 3 years.

The policeman who came for the inquiry gave open hints, but we ignored him big time. 😆 The MTNL guys made me go back and forth for a whole week, but I didn't relent. So, I guess the answer is pretty clear - will not give bribe!

2. One is against dowry but support your cousins asking dowry, as elders believe so and you cann't do anything about it. Society norm.

Again, neither my siblings nor I gave or took dowry. There have been people in the family who have given (and my mum and I had a few things to say to them), but yet to think of someone who has asked for dowry. Societal norms were made by us and we are the ones who should change them.

3. One is against reseveration but if open seat got reservations one ould just keep quiet and take it instead of refusing it for the sake of euality.

Again, I haven't been in the situation, but I would refuse. I believe I am capable of getting what I deserve on my own merit.

4. While doing any Govt related work, paying money to clerks even though you dislike corruption.

Same as 1.

So what's u r take on

One has to do things even thought not right following the norms set by society OR u will rebel and fight for it? Also, is following principles always makes sense?

PS - reality check ... speak your mind.

I am quite the rebel and very outspoken in such matters. (I was even nicknamed Kajal Bhai and Jhansi ki Rani by some of my friends and colleagues 😆) I have always stood up for what is right. 4 years ago we had a situation at our workplace where accommodation was being allocated on the basis of our nationalities. The goras were getting bigger homes whereas the rest of us were being made to do with lesser accommodation. The house allocated to me was more than perfect for me as a single person, but I was against the principle on which the allocation was based. There was also racial segregation - Arabs/Asians and Westerners. My colleague and I put together a petition, collected signatures and presented it to higher management. You have no idea how many people refused to put their names on the petition because they didnt want to lose their jobs. We could have lost our jobs because such actions are not tolerated here, but we decided we weren't going to sit back and watch silently. Of course, nothing happened then (higher management ignored us big time 😆 ), but last year the rule got revoked and the new employees are benefitting from our actions of four years ago which makes me a very happy bunny 😃
