So it really is all about the family equation and changing, evolving mindset. Of course a woman would need a leave to give birth or to nurture a child - that is as much a social call as anything else - and that is very much in the realm of adjustments made both at the work place as well as the home front.

Basically all these mindsets became a norm because in the time of bygone era, more brawn than brains were required to lead a quality life. Hence the ladies were relegated to background .The brains were not the top requisite for a successful life. However, in today's context, it's the brain which does all the talking..... hence mankind cannot really let the vast resource of brain bank go waste. Hence the mindset is changing and fast.

commitment, drive, hunger and personality still rule the roost over brains though. else u'd find almost every IITian on top given how even the average IITian IQ is much higher than most people's. no one's argued against women not having enough brains. the entire question is about commitment. things might be changing, but meanwhile?

also, fwiw, there are gender differences, much as the same as there are genetic differences when it comes to capabilities in different fields. somewhere the women have more ability, in other fields it is the guy. a guy might try a lot but he'd still have trouble looking like a beautiful dumb blond model, and that's just one example.😉😆
