@ maya, isnt that statement true for other places?

i feel that india has a lot of potential of reaching heights only if they can tackle other interior problems such as infrastructure, poverty, education system etc.

Yeah agree with you Maya but a lot'll depend on the quality of leadership we get...infact there are too many factors involved. To get a country of more than a billion, reach to developed nation status is going to be a herculean task.

Deepak, The underlined part is what exactly I mean too.

Now about the quality of leadership, we are a democratic country in the books but the ones who lead us and that is the leaders with portfolio of defence, education and even our prime minister are mostly decided by the leadership of the party who wins elections and it is not us who elect them which is NOT democracy. In a democracy we, the people, have the right to elect our leaders but no one is opposing this loophole parties are making. Our Prime minister is not even an elected representative. So what is the purpose of voting for a person when in reality we are voting for the party.

Which other places, Raunaqwa? We are talking about a country with billion population. Just like the BMI defers for each person, a country's development depends upon the population and size of the country too. How can we reach so many people?

While we are here discussing on when India will surpass US more than half of our fellow Indians are trying to make ends meet. Little children are working in fireworks factory and spinning mills.

Size of American economy is 3 times, India's
but India's economy is growing at a 3 times the rate of America's

India has over 3 times the working population of America

the question should be "not will", the question should be when? and 2050 is way too liberal an estimate

and ur estimate would be? just curious.
