mnms, this is a dumb and dumber poll and look at the response!! 😕 look at people like myself. It is so wrong that I am online on IF! I had to send out a grant past december. I chose to send it out this spring. I still have to start working on it! I am yet to submit my paper. Severe rebuke from my poor husband and mother (yes mother too, and I am 33 btw😉) has not helped 😕😕. What does it mean? Somebody should ban those who clicked 1 😆 and block IP address of those who clicked 2.

No jokes anymore..
This is what I should do, and those of you who clicked above.. -

Although you(we) may feel like your(our) internet use is getting out of hand, there are ways to get out of the trap.
  1. Break the Pattern - You must understand your use of the 'Net and alter your routine. Find something else to do when you first get home rather than turning on the computer; use an alarm clock to force you off after an hour, do something else, then get back on if you want.
  2. Find Other Uses for Time - Join a club, start an exercise program, get involved with friends. Look for ways to spend your time offline.
  3. Find Other People to Talk to - Many people get sucked in to the 'Net through talking with others online. Find people in "real life" who you can talk to, even if you start out with small things.
  4. Examine the Underlying Issues - Frequently internet overuse is a symptom of a deeper issue. Surfing the Web and chat rooms become a coping mechanism for dealing with emptiness, self-doubt, and other problems. You need to figure out what you're avoiding and begin to deal with root causes.
  5. Seek Professional Help - If all else fails, or if you want help in the process, seek assistance from a mental health professional. Through individual or group work, your dependence on the internet can be reduced.

Let me share tennyson's work here, instead of adding another post.
(the poem is unrelated to IF friend Bhilwara's response quoted above.. clarifying to avoid confusion)

I sometimes hold it half a sin
To put in words the grief I feel;
For words, like Nature, half reveal
And half conceal the Soul within.

But, for the unquiet heart and brain,
A use in measured language lies;
The sad mechanic exercise,
Like dull narcotics, numbing pain.

In words, like weeds, I'll wrap me o'er,
Like coarsest clothes against the cold:
But that large grief which these enfold
Is given in outline and no more.

😆I voted for second option. Knowing you it will take hardly few hours before you return in a new avatar.😆 On serious note IF addiction is bad or for that matter any kind of addiction😉 but it is mature people like you which prompts me to come and read your views. So please don't leave altogether.
