"Freedom Convoy" is not an average mass protest, it was being run by a bunch of whackjobs waving swastika flags, urinating on soldiers tombs, and demanding free food from homeless shelters among other atrocities. I'm not even sure when this supposed "movement" started but it was clearly hijacked by the far right extremists with their own agendas. Trudeau probably could have handled those nutjobs better, sure, but something had to be done to protect people's peace, the locals who were directly impacted cuz of their illegal occupation in the middle of roads and streets. But sure, if comparing him with those fascists makes you feel better, knock yourself out..... but it's no different than comparing an A student with years of proven track record with an F student just because he failed a test. 😆

Thats not an excuse. Even though I agreed with the farmers' protests, they were blockading highways and causing a lot of inconvenience to the people around them as well. Traffic and normal routes were cut off and severely disrupted for around a year.

And Khalistani extremists also tried to hijack the farmers' movement at one point. Does that make the movement any less legitimate? No, right? The Black Lives Matter movement was also accused of rioting.

One cannot have their cake and eat it too. Freezing bank accounts of protesters and imposing other draconian measures is Fascist, there is no other way to cut it.

@bold: Nope, that's where you are wrong, as long as it's a developed country (especially a western one) nobody is going to call it fascism.

So what if the roads were blocked for an year while a developing country was being ravaged by a pandemic? Pshht. As if lives of dirty brown unwashed masses have any value.

So what if he now has declared that he has the unchecked power to freeze Bank accounts which even their courts can't rule against. So what if this can and probably is being used against any and everyone against his government. The guy uses 'peoplekind', does that not show you how Liberal he is?

He and his ilk, or even others in the west will continue looking down on the rest of the developing world and keep judging the democracy ratings of the 'undeveloped heathens'.

If you ever feel your beliefs shake, just look at that pretty face and remind yourself that handsome men oops sorry people can do no wrong .

I have no idea about Indian politics and the parallels that are being drawn by others here. I was sticking to Canada alone and wondering why this thread was even here but it looks like the guy had already offended people from something he did/said before? 😆

He could have handled it better, granted, but I have no sympathy for fanatics who are clearly in the wrong, who think they can get away with anything in the name of protests! So ....yeah, while I understand why a drastic move like that would shake the system, I also can't help but be in awe over the fact that someone told that idiotic crowd to suck it .... esp when they're abusing democracy wherever they can. I might even be okay with occasional hiccups that look like "threats" to democracy if it keeps those extremists and fanatics in check. Who's to say that those fanatics aren't threats to democracy anyway and who's to say that taking measures to cripple them before it balloons up into another coupe isn't the most democratic thing to do, you know?! Anyways, it's late here, but felt the need to answer you. Goodnight@

I didn't care how "handsome" the guy looks but since others are mentioning it, I just did a double take at his pics. He sure is handsome, isn't he? 😆 😆 😉

But who decides what cause is 'democratic' and which ones aren't? Even the farmer protests caused a lot of inconvenience to people, but people still supported them, right? So how do you decide which kind of protest is the one which is "undeserving" of democratic treatment?

At the end of the day, if you are okay with suppressing one movement using undemocratic means, then you cannot raise your voice against ANY attacks on any peaceful protests ANYWHERE. Because a cause may look legit to one group and illegitimate to others. You cannot suppress peaceful protests by force, period.
