I don't have any pity for the middle-class because they all encouraged this and loved the hatred Modi was spreading. I have so many family members who blindly believe everything they hear from the BJP. They are silent now but will reemerge as soon as the crisis fades and they will back to their usual nonsense. I have zero faith that they will change.

There are no viable alternatives anyway. Indian politics is so dirty that no sensible, intelligent or educated person wants to enter it. The whole government is being run by a bunch of illiterate @ssholes.

you are wrong on multiple fronts. First, a lot of educated people do enter politics- chidambaran (harvard), tharoor (tufts), parrikar (IIT, now dead), jaitley (delhi univ, dead), pilot (wharton), mms (cambridge) to name just a few. The problem is the ones in congress just used their educational smarts to scam the system, not for betterment of the country. Can you explain why else someone as smart as tharoor would work under a moron like pappu? Is there any intellectual honesty working for someone who's dumber than you are?

Second, did the opposition show any tolerance for Modi? And i am not even talking about the period of the 2000s when they hounded him for events in gujrat. I am talking about the first month after he got elected PM! I was in lutyens delhi and there was this cabal of congress psuedo secularists who were shell shocked that they had lost. They were already hammering away at modi and were already claiming to be scared of what would happen. That was BEFORE he had even gotten started. No tolerance for an alternate dispensation, but expect tolerance for themselves. The hypocrites!

Third, i can list out any number of achievements under the modi government that you wouldnt know about if you are just watching the english channels, most of which are sold out to vested anti-BJP interests. Turn on some hindi channels for a change, and you will perhaps better understand where the vast majority of India is... why the maids, the laborers, the workers, the villagers etc vote so enthusistically for modi, even cutting across caste lines. From GST to direct cash transfers, to building toilets, providing free LPG cylinders, providing funds under lo-cost housing schemes, you will see the positive impact he has had on people's lives. Guys like you dont make India what it is.

when the UPA left in 2014, they had run up huge deficits that have hamstrung our country since. Money that could have gone towards developing ports or building up our industrial infrastructure was instead scammed away. We didnt even have decent planes to go up against the pakis! What is the use of smartness and education that robs the people and strips the country of defense?

by the way, were any of you ashamed that it took a PM to have the country build toilets and to exhort people to engage in cleanliness, that too in the 21st century? Is there no shame that previous dispensations never did anything about it? It took a PM Modi to teach people basic values and hygiene????

... and there's more, much more that one can go on with.
