5,000 e-learning kiosks to come up in villages |
| New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS) More than 5,000 kiosks to impart computer literacy will come up in villages across the country by the end of 2007. Shakeel Ahmad, minister of state for communications and information technology, said Tuesday the project would cost about Rs.30 billion. 'By the end of 2007 we will set up more than 5,000 kiosks in villages and invest Rs.30 billion for it,' Ahmad said at the India Economic Summit here. 'These kiosks will be set up in local panchayats for training villagers on information communications technology. The trained villagers will help train others in their village,' Ahmad said, addressing a session on 'IT and Telecommunications - Time to Think Ahead'. |
| Copyright Indo-Asian News Service I would like to know what most people think about technical / IT growth not only influencing urban life, but now reaching villages in India. Is it unnecessary / premature given that many villagers yet have learn to read / write.. , they still have water &/or electricity issues.. (literacy is still an issue, why jump at e-literacy?) or Is it about time to provide it to villages as it will help boost their ambitions and hence growth? mQT |
