Monsanto is basically a profit making organization and I guess the pockets get priority over lives.
Not sure what sort of ethical codes they follow though but I do hear a fair bit of complaints, perhaps there products had not been adequately tested and the marketing guys were hungry for more lucrative moneymaking ideas.
USA is normally good in levying fines on major corporations that run into Billions but Monsanto seem to have escaped with only little payouts and charges. Guess they employ pretty good legal guys.
But I guess this will be an interesting read

Monsanto is owned by the biggest guns pretty much. The common man pays more taxes than the big guns. What is the trade-off? some measly jobs? Recently I read a report in the Dailymail that in the UK Facebook paid less than 5000 pounds in tax, less than what the common man pays there.

The real question is do you think GMOs is a good idea?

For me GMO is really a good idea, you know all GMOs introduced to facilitate farmers, to save starving population.
Problem is we don't know exactly what could happen if people consume a large amount of GMOs, many researchs are conducted to figure out the impact of GMOs to animal health, some good and bad results are recorded but it is not enough for a final conclusion.

Though I study biology, honestly till now can't take any side supporting or opposing GMOs, even scientists take other side and have their own reason.
Companies in the plant industry support GMOs because this is their business, every company always tries to maximize their profit. Mosanto is not an exception.

There is only solution for this is continuing to study. GMOs is a promising solution for us in future, only we need more and more research.

I wish people would do more research on something of this importance before taking any stand.

GMOs require more fertilizer/pesticide/ water than non GMOs so no, they do not help starving populations. And terminator genes and even otherwise high priced seeds and more cost on fertilizer etc (refer above) will tell you that it's a lose lose for farmers.

And as far as starving populations are concerned, ti's not so simple as adding iron, vit A or what have you to food and deal with malnutrition. Human body is the most complex machine and there are various mechanisms in the body. if there's such a thing as iron deficiency, there's iron poisoning also. If there's vit A deficiency, there's vit A toxicity also.
So if you have something like say, golden rice, then you don't know how much vit A you're consuming. Ge the drift?

Well, Don't know if you could see it but thank you for posting that people should conduct more research before take any stands.
You are right, golden rice is not the only solution for Vitamin A deficiency even golden rice project is not completed, but it could works if this rice is distributed in a proper amount. Only the money spent for this project can be more than other solutions, that's a question.
Also there are some difficulties for farmers regarding GMOs seeds, they can't keep their seeds for the next year, high price for plants...Im surpried that pesticide used for GMOs planting is more than normal plants. But this happens like what hapens in nature, pets will soon develop resistance to pesticide.
But I still believe the idea of GMOs is good, only to truly maximize it usefulness we still have a long way to go. I just wonder if promoting GMOs by private company doesn't make things go like the way it means.
