I don't think there is a healthy way to cast aside emotions. If you suppress your emotions now, they will simmer inside and manifest in more negative ways in the future.
It is OK to break down. It is OK to cry. It is OK to let little things bother you. It is OK to let emotions have the upper hand sometimes. Remember, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Over time you will learn to manage your emotions better.
I highly recommend this course "Science of Happiness" https://www.edx.org/course/uc-berkeleyx/uc-berkeleyx-gg101x-science-happiness-5576#.VG4Si4vF9qU. It is absolutely free. You will be surprised at the research on happiness and how we can shape our happiness.

I don't think you can put aside your emotions. It's better to learn how to deal with it than shutting yourself off. When I'm upset,I'd take a book and start reading like there is no tomorrowđ I'm an avid reader but I like reading even more when I'm feeling down.I'd let myself immerse in a book, walk in someone else's shoes and view the world through their eyes for a change. To some reading is an escape from situations and the reality of life, but to me it is an escape from the usual, dull narrow thinking.Reading may not directly help you with dealing the situation, but on the whole,it widens your perspective and your options so it helps you to make right decisions,I think.I love swimming and travelling as well.I always find going for a short drive at night refreshing,no matter how bad I feel.I love it when the wind ruffles my hair.Simple pleasures of life!<3
Engage yourself in something you love doing. It will take things out of your mind for a while until you feel better. It always better to deal things with a calm mind,so you can work out the best possible solution. You can confide your worries in someone you're comfortable with..Like they say,'Shared joy is a double joy;Shared sorrow is a half sorrow '.
If nothing else helps,it's always better to have a cry or a rant.Let those feelings out instead of bottling up everything inside. It's better not to think much about past or future 'cause past can't be helped and future is not set in stone.Make the best out of present instead.

But RTH, imagine you are on duty(at work) and you have to maintain the emotional stability right? It is THIS that scares me and worries me.It is OK to break down. It is OK to cry. Overtime, emotions have begun managing me! đ But yes, I am happy to wait...see how I grow :)I highly recommend this course "Science of Happiness" https://www.edx.org/course/uc-berkeleyx/uc-berkeleyx-gg101x-science-happiness-5576#.VG4Si4vF9qU.
