Btw does any of you think humans are still evolving? Say, thousands years from now,is it possible that we might evolve into another species?

I do. Little toe doesn't help much in walking or transferring weight, it's getting vestigial; I think. Only purpose it serves is to hit furniture's edges.

Yes, if we don't undergo a mass extinction. 😃

Now, u r talking ,this is something that i can understand & something that i myself have thought about on countless occasions..😃

well, if we have indeed evolved into a new species, it is very possible that we might evolve into yet another species & are continuously evolving towards that..it will depend on a lot of factors.. mainly on what women prefer in a mate..yup i feel that more than men , it is the women & their taste in men that will eventually determine the traits of this supposedly new species..then it will largely depend on what traits & characteristic features we use the most as per the changing external environment..now this part is kinda scary coz it makes me think that we might end up being something on the lines of what was shown in the film Wall-E..fatso, lazy humans with almost disappearing limbs depending completely on technology..😲 😆

Now people may find women dating only good-looking healthy men quite shallow but do you see how important it is from evolution's perspective ?.. looks do matter & for a good reason too..but i guess over the years human females have adopted quite well to culture of anonymous sex without any far reaching consequences (babies )..so that way , every tom, dick & harry does have some chance..so the concept of sex in the human species too has evolved over the ages..and women too are used to it now..and may be even that might influence the kind of species that we might eventually evolve into..🤔 ..ok, i ll stop now..🥱..the triggers, consequences & possibilities seem endless..lots of complicated permutations & combinations in action here.. 😆

@ bold : and i thought i was the only one with such an unfortunate clumsy tendency.. 😆

yeah looks like we might evolve into something new, provided we dont get subjected to the same fate as dinosaurs..🤢..if not, the planet might start all over again with new forms of living things/beings ..

Randomness

Evolution is a slow process that takes place over centuries. Homo sapiens as we know them today evolved from other homo genus. We must remember that our modern human civilization is only a few thousand years old. That is almost like a newborn baby compared to earth that is 4.5 billion years old. I think we will be common ancestors to two or more evolutionary tracks of the Homo sapien.

Did you know there was a time when humans preferred fat people to mate? Being overweight was a sign of wealth and prosperity. It meant that the human came from a family which was either wealthy or resourceful in sustaining themselves. Slender people were not desirable as it symbolized poverty or weakness.

One funny thing is how much of modern human behavior is counter-evolutionary. That is against the grain of survival for the fittest.

- From an evolutionary perspective women need a slightly fatty abdomen and wide-set hips. Abdominal fats protect the delicate reproductive system and also are a source of energy. The wide-set hips are conducive to ease of childbirth. The ideal size for childbearing women is 12-20.

- In most animals the male goes through elaborate rituals to impress a woman - both in terms of appearance and strength. Commonly called peacocking for the peacock mating rituals. This lets women pick the most viable mate. While men do peacock sometimes, in most society it is the woman who is expected to peacock for female attention.

- Humans are one of the few species who sustain the weak and the only species that allows the weak to mate and reproduce. It sounds cruel but in many animals you have to earn the right to reproduce it is not your natural right. For some species, the right to life is also earned. Wolves, cats and dogs will often kill the weakest runt of the litter because it isn't fit for survival

- Modern medicine is making is giving us artificial immunity rather than natural immunity. Back in the day an epidemic served as a cleansing of the population. The weak were eliminated while the strongest with best immunity survived. Nowadays surviving epidemics and diseases is usually for those who have access to and can afford medical care. That being said when the viruses and bacteria mutate to superbugs we are guaranteed to die. Only the poor humans who have been building natural immunity will survive.

That being said Kropotkins theory of cooperation can be brought as an argument against my points. Humans have evolved to be one of the most socially elaborate and complex species. Our existence is dependent on these social structures and norms we have created. What we do is not counter-evolutionary. We have evolved to rely on social structure and means to survive. Society is the core of human evolution and will shape human evolution of the future.

We will just have to wait and see whether our society is part of mother nature or against her.

Humans are well ..to put it in simple words,a messed up species..When it comes to us,neither Darwinism nor Kropotkinism(if there is such a word😆) can successfully explain the way we are evolving.

what set of beautiful posts I got to read today! ^_^

@RTH, what does this mean??
@Quixote, can you please elaborate... why do you think it'd be women who'd determine the 'mating' games(?) .. 😆

what i meant is, what we are today as a species has been largely determined by the choices that our female ancestors made while mating..they only selected the best males as in males possessing desirable characteristic features & passed only desirable genes onto the future generation..and speaking from evolutionary perspective, men have always had to compete for mating rights & women chose only the best ones..so collectively speaking, these choices have shaped up our species, keeping the desirable characteristic features & eliminating others..and choice of best genes was mostly female driven bcoz they had to bear the cost of pregnancy & give birth..even today, women are picky about who fathers their children & men are inherently wired to mate with as many women as they could..though its changing since the male-female equation in modern human society too is changing..now a days even women participate in anonymous sex without any far reaching consequences (babies) & this behavior too might impact how the next generation shapes up..point is ,it is largely determined by the choices women make..men have always had to compete for women..but due to changed attitude towards sex, every tom-dick-harry stands a chance to father a child..and the choices made by women even under such circumstances will definitely have its impact on the traits retained in future generation..

ok, i know that was long & confusing ..& women yet again might feel burdened by this approach since the responsibility of future generation lies with them & men yet again might feel threatened to compete or belittled by this approach but the trick is to not think about it..we have reached a point where human society has become very complex..so the best thing to do is , sit back , relax, enjoy ur life & not worry excessively about how women's current choices will determine the future generation..am i making any sense ?😆
