Jayalalitha's imprisonment caused some people to self immolate. Now the next of kin has been promised compensation. Does it not condone suicide and encourage the poor to hero-ine worship and commit suicide for money? Should such a practice be allowed?

Zorro, you really believe that news?! 😆
I didnt know about SELF-IMOLATION(can you provide the source where you read that), but I read somewhere that people died of shock and committed suicide.
I've seen many such incidents in Telangana, and believe me... those people just happened to get a shock/attack on the day the veredict was given. It was all sheer coincidence. It is the people in politics plus the media that make up such sham news reports ~ that people died for her.
These reports were verrry common during the Telangana agitation. Whenever some student would commit suicide, there'd be people who'd even place chits having "Jai Telangana" or "I am dying for Telangana. Jai Telangana!" written in it and put it in the corpse's hand or on his desk etc.
Very rarely do we see people going into shock when their beloved, like husband or mother or child pass away...and for a politician, okay fine, she may be the 'Amma', but still?

If you put it that way, I guess it seems wrong.

Suicide is never right in most cases.
Throwing away a human life is a mistake and a waste.
But if both the body and the mind is severely damaged and there is much suffering ...it could be different.

No.I don't see it any different from other suicides.
Irrespective of the motives ,all suicides should be dealt the same way and never be encouraged.
