well, i hope what i write offends nobody
what i feel is when we r in a country as a citizen or as a visitor, whatever, we should respect its culture, customs, traditions, rules laid down by its govt and so on, and as some one already said, by bowing to the land which is protecting us, our family, our religion, giving us bread and butter, giving us a roof over our head etc we dont become small, we are only showing our gratitude to that land and in a way also thanking God for making all this possible,
just like in this forum, we never miss thanking vijay , coz due to him, today we have this forum, and all the wonderful friends from so many countries, and we also follow the rules laid down ,does it make us small in anyway
and please dont talk on behalf of entire Muslims, i know there are many Muslims around me, who may be more Indian than i am,they have written patriotic songs, sung them, worked for the welfare of our dear country,
it is best we ignore and give no media space and literally ban these fanatics who have nothing better to do and contribute to the society except their irrational thoughts and ideas and thereby creating suspicions and violent acts,
and for the member who talked about us worshipping cows , plants etc,i have very contemptuous opinion of him, the very reason i avoided writing so long, i may write things, which may have been banned,
i will only tell ,as long we are not going on a butchering and massacre spree like these terrorists ,and as long as we are not giving religion top priority and give more respect to humanity, we are the best

My point is that India is not forcing any one to sing it. I have changed 4 schools as a child, and taught in 3 other.(So i have many school experiences)

No where was any one forced to sing a hymn, national song, any hindu inspirational song or anything. At assembly or Independence / Republic day every body irrespective of religon stood together and the majority sang. (While naughty kids like me even whispered in the assemly to my best friend and made plans to bunk classes.😳 )

I agree no one ought to be forced into anything as we are a true Democracy !! But nor should the muslim clerics interfere with the Muslims like Javed Akhtar sahab or the others who do not have ANY issues with the National song.

Should this not be a free choice of each muslims. Isn't THAT a democracy ?

i agree that no one forced me to sing 'vande mataram' in school.

but in Islam, we advice each other to obey God. when some muslim drinks or disrespects his parents, we dont say that it is his life, his freedom..let him do whtever he likes. we try to bring him back towards good.

muslim clerics having knowledge teach the muslim masses about the principles and duties in Islam. so you cant say that they should not interfere in our matters.

but its amazing that they got up frm sleep after 5 decades!

And same with vande mataram ... reciting it wont make someone Hindu ... the song is about the country that people are living in ... and I dont see why it is being made into such a big deal!

yup,

my friend (she is Hindu) went with me to my Mosque once, it was get together in Ramadan. and after the dinner we offered namaz. she was sitting at the back, and some three four year old little girls came up to her, and asked why isn't she praying. she told them, that she doesn't know how to. the little girls were so suprised and give her a lecture all they could, that she is so big and doesn't know how to read Namaz.

she had a very interesting conversation with them. but was tell me, that she felt to embarassed for a moment, that she is so big and doesn't know how to read namaz!!!

anyways it was fun. and we had a good laugh about it, every time we meet. she told me that, aab woh Masjid ushi waqt jaye gi, when she knows puri namaz. incase those girls attack her again!!!! 😆

I live in USA and I stand up and when they sing the national anthem...I dont know the words and all, but I silently show my respect...It doesnt mean that I disowned my country...

In a similar way, Vandemataram is our national song, and we better respect it and not release fatwas against singing it...If one has a problem then I would ask them to leave the country and never come back...

Its high time India stopped being soft towards such fanatics...These few fools are spoiling the actual image of the Indian muslims...

I used to have a very conservative muslim friend who learnt hindustani classical and he sings all Ram and Krishna bhajans..That doesnt mean he stopped following Islam, neither his family laid a fatwa on him...

luv,
Raksha.l
PS:hi Saba, I liked what you said the best...I wish there were more people like you...

If I read Bible, or Geeta or any other book, that will not make me of that religion. same way, if I recite Vanade Matram, I will not become Hindu.

God is one, we just have given Him so many names. you call Him Bhagwan. We call Him Allah. kya farak parhta hai???

That is so sweet😊. I remember we shared similar stories on DM around 6-7 months back on a different thread about cultural differences.

very well said Sabah, and rakshoo di.

Everyday in school, i sing the Natinal Anthem and recite the pledge of Singapore - a country i am not a citizen of. While i do that because of respect, it doesn't mean that I have forgotten I am an Indian or my roots.

Similarly with religion, isn't it just a right thing to do by paying respect to other people's respect. My chinese friends have been to temples with me, as i have been to Buddhist temples and Churches with them. While we are unable to do follow the exact customs we try to and we respect what they do.

umm...i slept on this arguement. i was thinking that just because you say the national anthem does that make you more patriotic than others? i think its ur action not what u say that determines ur love to ur country. and i think that if its against their religion...then we should respect it

i think the reason they don't want to sing it is because they have to say, "I bow to thee, Mother." and in Islam u can't bow to anyone except allah so maybe that's why.
