Ok - this is my big question.

Why do the majority of serials have female protagonists (heroines). Why do we have to watch the difficulties that women go through all the time? For a change, there should be a young guy facing many problems. Do you think that women should be leading or men?

I understand that they are trying to show that women are the ones who suffer and they show how they deal with all the pain. But surely this stuff doesnt happen in real life. It's just an 'exaggerated version'.

I'd love to see men tackle with problems. They go through trauma as well (like their in-laws, financial situations, being a father, etc.)

What do you say - do you think there should be more male protagonists cos a lot of us here are sick of these sas-bahu type stories.

Srry if I said anything bad!

I think men are stereotyped has stronger and they don't have to 'deal' with problems. People don't see men becoming emotional about anything or having to prove themselves.

Exaggerated?? No-- I can tell you from experience that these things do happen

I agree with you, a different storyline, perhaps revolving around men, would be interesting. For example, the show Dulhan that is coming soon is about the a man's problems.😊

No sorries, sharing your opinion doesn't mean you have to be sorry😛

Yes: i agree with wildblossom: the situations that women deal with are not 'exaggerated'...unless you're watching an Ekta Kapoor soap, where every woman gets married and divorced 4 times (now THAT'S exaggerating!! But then again, Ekta Kapoor is always trying some stupid way of stretching her stories out of PROPORTION LOL!!)

I guess it's a man's world after all, and MEN are pictured in soaps and TV as the stronger and more stable sex...which obviously is not true...

take that case that came in the news a few months ago: a wife was beating up her husband!! And imagine that story on TV: IT would be an insult to men, and would generate controversy....so soap makers avoid storylines with men as their main character (unless it's a neutral soap, such as to do with LOVE etc)

It's unfair i know.....but one day it will happen!!

There is a show on Sony that has a male protagonist, the show is akela and its a si/fi thriller type of serial, its actually pretty interesting. One thing i dont agree with however in indian serials is that all of the female protangonists are perfect, they have no gray shades in them, i think that every human being has gray shades and should be shown as such even in ficticious shows.

I agree there are way too many female protagonist on the TV. Yes , there are more issues than men as women have faced all forms of subjugation for ages. And in a Patriach society men have already been busy ruling their homes and families. But i must say yes there issues faced by men too. And i would love to watch shows that are based on a strong , interesting male protagonist.

Oh good someone agrees with me! 😛

U guys are right - women do face a lot of problems. I'm a girl in my early teens and I'm facing a lot of problems already with guys and meaner girls! So theyre trying to show the way 'the weaker sex' deals with things.

And usachick821 is right. The bahus in the show are so 'perfect'. Come on, no one's like that in real life.

And things wouldnt really be 'exaggerated' in shows. But I was mainly picking on Kekta soaps where women have like 4 divorced husbands.

Has someone noticed that most movies have Male Protagonists whereas TV has Female Protagonists?

THEY R PURELY DOIN BUSINESS....... they r there to make money....... n not to teach u lessons of life....
I agree tht even guys have difficult times in their life...... but TV industry will ofcourse sell what ll be sold..... n they ve got d nerve of indian audience.. its as simple..... if they ll find some better flavour that we ll like they ll go for it no matter what......

Well said! 👏

Just to add to that, majority of soap/serial watchers are women, who apparently like female protagonist based shows, if we go by TRPs.

But note that in MOST Hollywood shows, either the protagonist is a guy or all the cast members are equal.
