The subway train that can climb a skyscraper: Radical new concept could see vertical stations in New York and London

Stations in cities like London and New York are traditionally vast, cathedral like structures.

However, a new proposal calls for trains to climb up the side of skyscrapers to form the first vertical stations.

This would free up space in city centres, and allow passengers to be routed out of the station more effectively, its inventors say.

The future of stations? Its inventors say the vertical station would free up space in major cities

The future of stations? Its inventors say the vertical station would free up space in major cities

HOW IT WORKS

As the train travels close to the tower it transitions from its horizontal formation, and ascends up the facade vertically.

The individual compartments pivot similar to a Ferris wheel', allowing the passengers within the carriage to remain in an upright position and facing towards the cityscape.

The carriages will be supported by a magnetic structure located at either side.

This eliminates the need for rails beneath, and allowing the carriages and its passengers to connect to the tower.

Passengers will travel into the main lobby allowing travelers to ascend through the atrium and through the platforms and onto the carriages.

'The Hyper Speed Vertical Train Hub, aims to resolve the inevitable challenges that cities will face by 2075, and offers a deliverable and sustainable solution for the future of the transport generation,' they say.

The project will become a repeatable' piece of infrastructure that can be implemented to support any city around the world, connecting to a new Hyper Speed under and over ground network, with trains covering an average distance of 300miles in 30 minutes, they hope.

The huge towers would be as large as the Empire State building. Called Hyper Speed Vertical Train Hub, it could replace stations with a giant skyscraper. Train carriages pivot like a Ferris wheel then they approach, and magnets on the side of the building allow them to rise up.

'I pronounce you daddy and daughter': Dying father sees his 11-year-old down the 'aisle' knowing he won't be there on her wedding day

  • Jim Zetz, 62, from California has stage 4 pancreatic cancer
  • His young daughter Josie says she's sad he won't be there for 'memories down the line'
  • Her early 'wedding' took place on the same day as her 11th birthday

Knowing that he wouldn't be there for her wedding, a terminally ill father walked his 11-year-old down the 'aisle' years early with the pastor sweetly pronouncing them 'daddy and daughter'.

Jim Zetz, 62, from Murrieta, California, who has stage 4 pancreatic cancer, proudly held his daughter, Josie's hand during their backyard ceremony on March 14 and placed a sparkling ring on her index finger.

The tear-jerking event was staged by photographer Lindsey Villatoro, who heard about the Zetz's heartbreaking story and decided to do something out of the ordinary for their final days together.

'One day [you] wake up and realize you're given the opportunity to change someone's life for the better.

'You get an idea, don't think twice and run with it,' Mr Villatoro wrote in a description of a video slideshow she made from the event and uploaded to Vimeo.

Ms Villatoro first met Josie and her father when she photographed them, along with Josie's mother, Grace, for one of their final family portraits together.

Mrs Zetz mentioned that Josie was upset about the fact her father would not be there for 'memories down the line' so Ms Villatoro decided to try and help out.

She suggested holding a 'mini-wedding' for Josie to coincide with her 11th birthday and got the go-head.

Friends and family rallied around in support, as did complete strangers.

For her 'wedding' Josie wore an elegant long, lacy white dress and carried a pink-and-white bouquet. Soft waves were put in her long brown hair and beauticians applied natural make-up.

Her father meanwhile opted for a smart camel-colored three-piece suit, topped with a flat cap.

After their ceremony Josie and Mr Zetz shared a quiet moment together, before returning to join the 'reception'.

In one of Ms Villatoro's photographs Josie is seen being kissed on her cheeks by her mother and father with tears streaming down. But along with tears there were also lots of smiles, as the pictures show.

'Down the road, this will mean a lot to [Josie],' Mr Zetz said. 'She will always remember it.'

Mr Villatoro said that it was an 'honor' helping the Zetzes.

'Josie, you will forever have a video of you and your dad walking you down the aisle to play at your wedding in years to come, as if he was physically there,' she wrote.

Nine-month-old boy charged with attempted murder in Pakistan granted bail by judge

A nine-month-old boy charged with planning a murder, threatening police and interfering with state affairs in Pakistan has been granted bail after appearing in court this week.

Toddler Muhammad Mosa Khan was booked in February along with 30 other people, including a number of members of his family, after stones were allegedly thrown at police and energy officials during raids on homes in Lahore. Residents had been accused of not paying for electricity.

Apparently deciding that the nine month old was capable of - and had - taken part in the alleged stone throwing, Sub-Inspector Kashif Ahmed decided to arrest the child.

What followed were farcical scenes in which the toddler was fingerprinted and made to sit on his grandfather's lap in court, drinking his bottle.

The judge quickly granted bail for the child, along with the other people accused in the case. Baby Muhammad is however currently expected back in court on 12 April - although the judge apparently noted the absurd nature of the charge, he does not have the powers to dismiss the case against him.

Last-minute reprieve: Incredible moment an Iranian killer is spared execution by his victim's parents while he had the noose round his neck

  • Murderer was due to have chair kicked away by victim's mother and father
  • But mother instead slaps him around the face and chooses to forgive him
  • Convict's jubilant mother rushes over and embraces the grieving woman
  • She had change of heart after her dead son appeared to her in a dream
  • As he prepares to take his last breath, this is the incredible moment a murderer is spared the gallows just seconds before he is due to be hanged after a dramatic reprieve from the victim's mother.

Blindfolded and with the noose tight around his neck, the Iranian killer was due to have the scaffold chair kicked away from under him by the dead man's parents.

But as these compelling pictures show, the mother instead walks up to him, slaps him around the face and chooses to forgive him in an extraordinary act of clemency.

The parents then remove the noose to the joy of the convict's mother who runs over and embraces the grieving woman who let her son walk free.

The victim's father, Abdolghani Hosseinzadeh, revealed his wife had a change of heart after her dead son appeared to her in a dream.

He said: 'Three days ago, my wife saw my elder son in a dream telling her that they are in a good place and for her not to retaliate.

This calmed my wife and we decided to think more until the day of the execution.'

The father said her actions were even more remarkable because they had already lost a son in a motorbike crash at the age of 11, according to the Guardian which cited the semi-official state news agency Isna.

The killer, known as Balal, was sentenced to death for stabbing 18-year-old Abdollah Hosseinzadeh Jnr, during a street fight in the Iranian town of Royan seven years ago.

    IRAN EXECUTES HUNDREDS A YEAR

Iran was one of the main drivers of a 15 per cent rise in executions around the globe last year, according to Amnesty International.

Figures released by the organisation suggested at least 369 people were put to death, while, in February, it said nearly 100 had already been carried out this year.

But Mr Hosseinzadeh Snr believes Balal did not mean to kill his son.

He said: 'Abdollah was offended and kicked him, but at this time the murderer took a kitch knife out of his socks.

'Balal didn't know how to handle a knife. He was naive.'

In a literal application of the sharia law of retribution, known as qisas, the victim's family are allowed to take part in the execution.

They also have a say in sparing the death sentence, but not the jail term.

One of the most beautiful piece of writing in recent times. The two clowns read it beautifully.
The way it ended...khud ko buland kareein gaye, rab ke bande hain hum. ghunday the, ghunday hain, ghunday rahein gaye hum.
The world can go to hell. I am what I am and I am proud of myself. Great message!
