NEW DELHI: Three men have been arrested for the abduction and gang rape of two Jharkhand women who were waylaid by a man and promised a confirmed train ticket to their hometown. The women were given a date rape drug and then abducted and assaulted. One of them was found walking about in a disoriented state by police on Friday.

Naushad (34), Raj Kumar (38) and Nazir alias Raju (26) offered the women mango juice laced with the drug and sexually assaulted them in a northeast Delhi flat, police said. They have been charged with criminal conspiracy, rape, abduction and poisoning.

A fourth person, Dulal Khan, has been arrested for buying the robbed mobile phone of one of the women.

"The incident came to light when constable Sanjeev spotted a woman walking on the road in a disoriented state around 2.30am in Bhajanpura on June 6. He immediately informed his seniors and called in an emergency response vehicle for help as she had blood stains on her clothes. The young woman was taken to GTB Hospital where a medical examination confirmed rape. A case was registered and investigations begun," Sanjay Baniwal, joint CP (eastern range), said.

A team led by additional DCPs Rajendra Singh Sagar and Brijender Singh Yadav was formed. The second woman was also found in Bhajanpura and was taken to a hospital. She went to her aunt's home in south Delhi where police reached her based on inputs from the first woman. Both women's statements were recorded and police began to trace their robbed mobiles.

"We first nabbed Dulal and recovered the mobile phone of one of the girls. We nabbed the three others on his instance. A blood-stained blanket and hair have been recovered from the flat, which belongs to Naushad," Baniwal said.

The two friends, aged 23 and 21 years, were zoology students who had completed their internship with a firm in Gurgaon. They had been living with their aunt and were returning to Ranchi. On June 5, they had reached Anand Vihar railway station to catch a train but could not board it as their waitlisted ticket had not been confirmed. They met a man, who introduced himself as Raju from Jharkhand and claimed he, too, had missed the train. The man asked them to accompany him to an agent to get confirmed tickets and board a train from Old Delhi railway station.

The trio boarded an auto waiting for them outside the station. The driver was accompanied by a man on the front seat while the young women and Raju sat in the rear. On the way, they stopped to fill CNG at a place where the women were offered mango juice spiked with 'number 10' tablets. When they lost consciousness, they were taken to a flat and sexually assaulted there. The culprits later drove them in the same auto and dumped them at separate places. One of them managed to find her way home; the other was discovered by police.

Gang used sedatives to subdue targets

Raj Shekhar,TNN | Jun 10, 2014, 12.27 AM IST
NEW DELHI: The three men arrested for gang-raping two women from Jharkhand may have raped or robbed at least a dozen other people after drugging them, police said on Monday. While their involvement in other cases has not been established, they are said to have confessed their crimes during questioning.

Police say the three talked people at bus stands, railway stations and the airport into accompanying them with the promise of arranging confirmed tickets at low prices, and budget accommodation.

All three had fixed roles in the gang. Naushad was the drug handler who spiked not only drinks but also biscuits with sedatives and 'date rape' drugs. His biscuits were more potent than drinks as he mixed a greater quantity of the drugs in them.

"He arranged the plain and spiked biscuits in order inside packets. The spiked biscuits were at second, fourth and sixth places. He would open the packet in front of the target and eat the first biscuit to allay suspicion," said an officer.

Raju alias Raj Kumar, who graduated from a college in Kotputli, Rajasthan had the task of snaring victims. He would smooth-talk stranded passengers, befriend them and offer to share their auto fare while leading them to an auto driven by another gang member.

Police are worried about the easy availability of the sedatives the gang used and are trying to find out the sources. Such drugs were also used to abduct an AIIMS staffer from INA in south Delhi and steal from an Army man in Nizamuddin.

Last year, a Pakistan national was abducted on his way from the airport and robbed in a similar manner.

The effects of these drugs can last for days, said an investigator, adding, they are far stronger than Valium and common sleeping pills.

Rounded up to be killed: ISIS militants seize dozens of Iraqi soldiers before driving them to the desert to be shot

Islamist militants in Iraq have boasted of slaughtering dozens of Iraqi soldiers captured in the fighting which has consumed the country in recent days.

Pictures posted on a militant website appear to show masked fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) forcing captives to lie down in a shallow ditch.

Further photos appear to show the bodies of the men soaked in blood after being shot.

Most of the soldiers who appear in the pictures are in civilian clothes. Some are shown wearing military uniforms underneath, indicating they may have hastily disguised themselves as civilians to try to escape.

'This is the fate of the Shi'ites which Nuri (al-Maliki, Iraq's president) brought to fight the Sunnis,' a caption to one of the pictures reads.

Others showed ISIS fighters apparently seizing facilities in Tikrit.

UN human rights chief Navi Pillay warned on Friday of 'murder of all kinds' and other war crimes in Iraq, and said the number killed in recent days may run into the hundreds, while the wounded could approach 1,000.

Speaking in Geneva, she said her office has received reports that militants rounded up and killed Iraqi soldiers as well as 17 civilians in a single street in Mosul.

Her office heard of 'summary executions and extrajudicial killings' after militants overran Iraqi cities and towns, the statement said.

However, despite the bloodshed, some Iraqis are already returning to Mosul after Islamist insurgents promised them cheap fuel and food, restored power and water, and the removal of barricades.

Many appeared excited to return, swelled with sectarian pride with the quick advances of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, who Sunni Muslims regard as liberators.

But elsewhere, tens of thousands of others, mainly Shiites, are piling into refugee camps as they flee the deadliest conflict to grip Iraq since the 2003 U.S.-UK invasion.

^^ Hadn't Saddam Hussein been doing a greater job at maintaining peace in that region while he was ruling Iraq 🤔 What exactly was achieved by throwing him off and kiling him?
