So for those who don't know about the Scroogled campaign, check this out :

Microsoft did abandon it.. finally, 'coz they realized how loyal Google fans are .. 😛

As someone who knew about this before the campaign came out, it had no impact on me.. I used Google products, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon and the likes knowing that they know everything about me! .. I tweak sharing settings to share the minimum, disable ads and ignore the recommendations whenever I can, so it doesn't freak me out!

But what about you? Have you experienced this? Did it freak you out when you heard about it first ..?
What do you think .. is the convenience and benefits provided by these products worth giving up your privacy?

The link says in an update that it isn't being abandoned. Of course they have already brought the word out for common people, so the work is done.

I don't think it is correct to compare it with FB and likes, the issue was it going through your mail. I already knew that Google goes through the mail to serve ads. Although it's not a big deal as my mails are not that secretive and it's not like employees go through it, but still it would be nice if it was private. But since I have been using GMail for so long, I don't find this reason big enough for me to change providers. Bottom line is that using cloud services like this may never be 100% private, so for real secret things, you can set up your own server.

Customization based on information can actually be useful, so I am happy as long as all sharing is opt-in instead of opt-out and I have control over what I share.
