According to the traditions what happened before was a girl got married and moved with her husband and his family. While the husband earned money, wife took care of his family and later on the kids.. So it will be shameful for the parents to stay with their daughters for two reasons: Firstly, she has her own family to take care of and secondly, will be like surviving on someone else's money since the husband is earning all the money. I think that is the reason they have that saying "ladki parayi dhan hoti hai" (it sounds kind of funny though).
But looking at the scenario now days, the girls are Independent now days and can contribute equally financially, so I think if she wants she has all the right to stay with her parent. If a girls in-laws are staying with them, why can't her parents? Why should boys have all the fun? 😃 But people do not believing in living together now days, be it parents or in-laws.. I think that is why the number of nuclear families are increasing, while joint families are a becoming a rare thing..

I think time has come for girls to take the next step. lol. You cannot talk about independence/equality and at the same time is still putting the main responsibility on husband.
They are more than welcome to take financial burden of husband, kids, their family and pay all the bills. They can take husband to shopping also. In return husband can stay home and watch sports, movies, TV serials and orgainze gossip sessions. Soon we will have sasur-damaad tv serials. Ek sasur bhi kabhi damaad tha types.

People do think of the society before doing things. And the sad fact is, society does talk if a married girls parents stays with her parents. It is extremely tragic but it is true.
Really sorry about to hear about it :(

Wow! You know I am someone who is always trying to find the answers to such questions in my life about why is there such a difference between how daughters are treated and how sons are treated and this topic by you deals with one aspect of this difference.

For the question, well there is only one thing to blame in this matter- CULTURE. The culture in which we have all grown up prohibits Parents to live with there daughters after her getting married. there is actually no one to blame in this case. The mentality and mindset is so deeply rooted in the system of the people that changing such a mindset is like hoping for a revolution.
