The application of current laws and standards across a thousand and more years did not sound very logical to me.
To clarify that point Angie, I agree. It would even be hypocritical of me to expect that because in the Ayodhya debate I said we could not apply today's laws to historic events of the past. My problem is with the refusal to accept that something is wrong, and worse say it is acceptable even today. Can we hold kings and conquerors of the past accountable by today's standards of laws – No. But can we say that some brutal war and conquest was wrong. Yes. It was kind of that principle.

I've read three versions of the Bible. Hopefully no Christians get offended, but it is quite a snooze fest. I like Kings though, especially the chapters on David and Solomon. The Jerusalem one is the most tedious one, with very non flowing language. The YHWH also always throws me off on how to read or say YHWH, do I read/say it as Yahweh, do I keep it silent, do I think of the lost name. I do agree that the King James version is the easiest translation. But it is fascinating how the same book is translated so differently.
I hope the Quran is livelier. And this must be a rookie question, does the Quran contain the Pentateuch or not?

Arwen, I still remember those days where our posts in the Den use to be reported the same way. 😆😆
Glad to know that you're writing constructive posts having been a member of some of the juvenile sections on IF.
@RTH - it might seem disjointed but overall don't know if u ll find it to be "snoozefest" or not 😆 Though u ll definitely find differences in the explanations of certain verses across the different schools of thoughtand BTV- i m a LOTR fan 😆 .. the reason i chose Arwen as a username was because i like Liv's portrayal in the movies ...

Which hardcore Tolkien fans complain about as Arwen is mostly in the appendices. 😆
Have you come across one of the internet theories that LOTR is anti-Islam? I had read a conspiracy theory that Middle Earth is Europe and the west and that Mordor represents Arab nations. It was weird. It was a long while back during LOTR heyday.

I was neither misconstruing your personal philosophy nor commenting on it.
I had that very post in mind 😆.Originally posted by: return_to_hades
