Personly I experienced both acts...but Killing somebody in the name of ragging. It is really shameful... The culprits must be given really harsh punishment. In india ragging is normal practice in medical and engineering colleges. only some cases like this get reported and in IIT it is mandatory to get stripped totally nud by your seniors at least once.😊
Kisse suna ye ? Ofcourse, it cant be ur own experience ...
Aise kuch nahi hota .. day scholars ko kuchh nahi hota .. its only the hostellers who get ragged like that.

Didn't i say the same thing ? that its not mandatory, only the hostellers get ragged like that, its not the case for day schols. ? Never mentioned abt other institues, never talked abt the proportion of hostellers ? My objection was to the lone case of IITs (the line in bold), which is what i know of..
take care ..😃

Ragging can start as fun but takes on ominous turns at times when it gets out of control. What makes students take ragging to such an extreme stage?
Baser instincts get the better of them. Then the confidence that they can get away with it emboldens them. Strict vigilance and disciplinary action can act as a deterant.Students and parents spend a lot in terms of money, time, energy, sleepless nights worrying about getting into a "good stream" and a "good college" ! To end up like this?It sure is a huge waste
The institute authorities ought to be looking into it seriously and prevent such extreme cases. How many more careers and lives will have to be sacrificed before the authorities really wake up? If they cannot monitor the students raggiing activities its better and safer to ban it altogether. There are supposed to be anti ragging laws in the country but like most other laws they do not get implemented.
Action should be taken against the hostel wardens and the principal for not implementing anti-ragging measures.
http://cmm.lefora.com/2010/10/31/aman-kachroo-ragged-to-death-ajay-verma-naveen-ver/The case of Aman Kachroo was too horrifying. His father has now become an anti ragging activist. He has been visiting various schools and talks at length about the horrors of ragging. while he was at our school the pain and loss that he felt coupled with a sense of guilt for having failed to prevent his son's tragic death was all too clear.

I'd say the negatives far exceed any positives.
totally agree with you .The common justification given for ragging is to help newcomers get integrated well into the community, enforce discipline and develop a general atmosphere of fraternity and friendship. There are other friendlier ways to achieve itSometimes the ragging is limited to being asked awkward questions or some moderate teasing (being made to sing or dance, etc.). Often the same people who do these later treat them well and become quite helpful, which I guess is okay.As long as students stay within limits its OK. The problem is it is impossible to know when the limits will be crossedBut often it goes out of control and shifts from teasing to vicious assaults - whether physical or psychological, and there's absolutely no justification for either. Its possible that the students get carried away! Some misuse the situation for their own ends. I know of senior students who demand money from their juniors. Some force the juniors to drink and smoke. Some force them to engage in objectionable activities. The movie "Hostel" is based on the horrors of ragging. Not sure if its released yet but it should sensitise the public about it.Fortunately I haven't experienced the latter kind of monstrosity so far (and I pray I never do!), but I've known people who were seriously affected by it. And often these cases go unreported because of fear of retribution.and also because people tend to take it lightly and make fun of the victimSometimes it is the goonda elements of the college. My cousin had a bad experience but luckily it did not turn tragic. He beat up his seniors and locked them all in a room & ran from the hostel. But he never returned to that college. Lost a year in the process and took up another course.I think ragging has done more bad than good and the perpetrators should be severely punished. Wish people just followed the Golden Rule, at the very least - "What is hurtful to you, do not do unto others".
