I've never understood the fanatical worship of some film celebrities. It actually began with them portraying Gods and Goddesses. It almost seems as if the trend continued just like the sake of it. Most obsessed South Indians don't come across as ditzy fan girl types. Some are quite articulate. Its almost like Star Wars fans wanting to make Jedi an official religion.

In some context I understand why South Indians are so obsessed with their stars. There has always been a disparity. Many South Indian stars have been good actors - but never receive the recognition. Kamal Hassan who was immensely talented could never breakthrough in Bollywood. Many others have also tried and failed. The large part of the problem is that none of the South Indian stars look like heroes - they have always been pretty less than ordinary looking. So in some ways it also seems that south Indian fans overcompensate for the mainstream Bollywood rejection with extra adulation.

U know this is why people adore rajini in the south bcoz they look beyond looks and appreciate them for what they are.....

rajini has been in the industry for 35 yrs and if anyone watched his earlier movies would realise that he has acted well and excelled in roles that the khans, kumars, bachans are playing now............

I dont understand why they build temples either but have to remember the same fans demolish the temples they built as well - I think it was for Kushboo - they built her a temple and then demolished it when there was a controversy 😆.

And are you saying the Bollywood stars dont have fangirls who hammer anyone who disses their fave? 😉 yeah right! -One look at a topic which is more than 3 pages in Bollywood forums will tell you the truth about the fans that Bollywood stars have

I prefer to watch movies which have decent acting even if I dont understand malyalam - so I would prefer a Mamotty and Mohanlal film directed by a good director over the recent Bollywood hits anyday 😊

As for Rajinikanth I dont understand his lure either but have many friends who are great fans of his. I think it just has to do with charisma.And he is supposed to be a very good person offscreen as well. AmitabhB and SRK are not very good looking by Bollywood standards either but still they are at the top when compared to better looking stars. Its the X factor - hard to pinpoint exactly what it is that draws people to them.

so if hundres crown outside ash and abishek wedding is not fanatics, fans outside srk and salmans house waiting hours and hours, thats ok.

looks crazy fans exist in every industry,,,,,, dont generalise every person and say SI worship their actors......get the facts right

masses who have fan clubs of their favs have thier craziness just like how masses are in Bollywood.

normal, educated, literate SI do not do that and hence dont generalise. SI dont go bonkers on people who are "good looking" ignoring everything else like "talent"...all they care abt is figure,glamour and color........are all northies like that coz the general vibe seems to be like that as many here prefer eye candy

Again ur ignorance is funny. Anyway to explain that, there are several actors in the south industry other than rajini. As for the superstar, he does not proclaim to make diff cinema or something tat would give him recognition for acting coz he has done all that in his 35 yr career . Now he is what he is....he just pleases his fans of all ages and yes he does all that u mentioned and more and u know what people enjoy it even now .

for those who said that in robot he shoots bullets with his fingers......yes he does all that and more but duh........he is a robot hence he is programmed to do stuff that human beings cant. Ever watched batman, superman, iron man, hulk etc .......watch the movie
