Does a nation's language impact its development?

Would India have a become a predominantly Hindi speaking Country, rather than an English speaking country as it is today, if not for the opposition from Tamilnadu against the National Language status of Hindi.

If India was to be a Hindi speaking country would it have had the current growth or would it have had more growth.

Does the language of the country in anyway impact its development? What would have been the state of the states where Hindi is not the main language; by whole of India speaking and communicating only in Hindi, would it have helped the whole of India develop better.

Now that English is more commonly accepted then Hindi in almost all parts of India, is there any use or advantage of promoting Hindi in states where Hindi is opposed, thus instigating further hatred towards Hindi and more passion towards English.

If India were to be a Hindi speaking country and English would be same as the Chinese who are learning English to grab business from India.

Either way people who want to develop themselves will ignore the decision whether they decide to force Hindi down everone's throats or throw it in the trash can.
It keeps certain individuals preoccupied while others keep plotting for self development leading to the country's development
Either way it is a perfect win-win
Dont you think?

True that ! The politicians who promote hindi or state languages send their own kids to english medium schools . Each language has its own importance . To learn one does not mean that the other has to be sacrificed. The more languages we know the better we will be able to communicate. I m fine with Hindi and English both as official language of the country with the state languages enjoying their status at the state level.
