If you know a better link then provide it to us. Till then we have to assume it to be correct.

Anyway there are 2 points:

- Statistics say that Kolkata has higher GDP than some other metro cities

Here, I am asking you what could be better metric according to you?

- on why Kolkata has higher GDP? I can attempt it but is GDP an ok metric according to you?

You cannot assume anything by giving an unreliable source from wikipedia. 🥱
Higher gdp of kolkata compared to what? You started this statement, so burden of proof lies with you.

Besides, according to wikipedia.. 😊 kerela has the highest crime rate in India. So much for social equiality and prosperity there... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_India

Wikipedia is not always unreliable. You can look at other links as well.

2005

http://www.citymayors.com/statistics/richest-cities-2005.html

more recent
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/Economy/Surat_tops_GDP_race_at_115/articleshow/2736233.cms

anyway to answer my own question. Another factor is GDP growth.

If Kolkata's GDP after british left is GDPi and its GDPf now. Then we may look at the effect of communism by looking at (GDPf -GDPi)/GDPi and comparing the same with other cities.

Nope, can't open the links. Don't know what it is- could be a virus. You'll have to paste and copy.

And you are claiming that Kolkata is doing better than all of them?

@Debu: He is just asking questions. When you answer he asks more questions. Everyone knows this is a trapping technique. because question after question there is a limit to the answers.

@Xinit: To be fair you have to answer some questions as well. or show some other reliable statistics.

Stop beating around the bush and say what you have to say.
