I dont care if they show intimacy on TV
But the main problem is that most indian serials are family serials.
I started watched indian serials when i was like under 10 😆
Watching intimacy scenes at that age is a total no no!
Plus, i watch indian serials with my parents.
Watching intimate scenes in front of them is soo embarrassing!
And my parents would totally change the channel 😆
or at least my dad will if he's around haha

But when im watching with my mom, we dont say much
except i'll be like "what the heck are you watching?" (jokingly)
and thats about it

Before I go further, I have not lived in India since 2000; so this is based on old perceptions.

No, pre-marital sex is not very common in India. Like most of the subcontinental nations it is very frowned upon and a major social taboo. Physical intimacy (non-sex) is actually quite common in most relationships, Pre-marital sex is less common, but it still does happen. However, everything is hush hush due to the taboo of it. Also the closer you move towards the metropolitan area, the more open and intimate the attitude is towards relationships and the opposite happens when you move away from metropolitan areas.

Speaking of USA and Canada, people get an incorrect perspective from movies and shows which portray the Coasties and New England types. Although pre-marital sex is normal and much more common in North America in comparison to the desi nations, there are pockets of America which surprisingly have very desi like values. There are several states that are deeply religious and many small towns have deep rooted conservative values. Even in a liberal progressive city like Madison there are several students who wear promise rings (actually stick to it).

In my opinion I would barely consider any Indian show to be considered a family show. At least I do not consider them to have any values or perceptions, I would want family to have. The over the top exaggerated drama, the inherent meanness of some characters, the blatant desecration of family relationships, the cooked up conniving schemes, the twists and turns, the attitude of people towards each other. In fact I would be worried of a child growing up with incorrect perceptions of what family, society and relationships are really like. Maybe this show is different, but I have barely seen a show that portrays honest to goodness. Family show would be 7th Heaven or Full House or Who's the Boss or the Cosby show - definitely not the desi television. I consider the average desi show to be PG-13 and some level of intimacy is appropriate in PG-13, now its a whole new ball game if it is R rated.

I think thats precisely the problem with parents. They see something intimate they flip the channel or act embarrassed. Now the child assumes intimacy to be something to be avoided or embarrassing. When adolescence hits and hormones act up, children do not turn to parents as the conditioning is one of embarrassment and taboo - hence they sometimes go to the wrong source and get incorrect views and guidance on intimacy.

My kids will be raised on a healthy diet of Xena and SVU. Of course before 10, I will watch Disney Marathons and Old school sitcoms with them.

Kavya, 🤣🤣🤣🤣 .. Siggy box on vacation ? 🤣

RTH, i agree to you with intimacy in general. But the show to which we referred is a very famous "YOUTH SHOW" where love shown is shown synonymous with intimacy. Whenever the 19 year old kids make up from their "so-called" fight, there are intimate barn scenes. They "only-kiss", which the CV claims though they spend the whole night together. What's love then ?

I don't know about you, but I'd think that the youth would be doing the love-making. Now don't tell me people want to see the old generation hitting it off on serials. 😆

Okay, okay, just kidding. I'm just in a silly mood. 😆

But, but, but, one more question - why is all the Indian television lovemaking done in a barn?

Oh you're so silly. Do you think I actually watch SRGMP? Nope - I just do the debating. Hence, do you think I need to watch this serial to debate on it? 😉😆

P.S. I didn't even read the first page of the topic. 😆

Miss Preety Zinta, there is a diff between "love-making" & "making-out" ..
when there is love, there are alot of latent emotions which binds you with your partner. But where is love shown when you are only potrayed in "kissing" scenes .

PS : Not you 😆, i mean the soap stuff. I call it infatuation than love.
