I agree, but we gather knoweldge from different books, speachs,authers and from net too....that summery I posted here about prostitutes systems...Early years in india the "brides of the town" system is a fact....I dont have scand copy books I read b4...😊

Vinus it seems that your well versed mind has come up with yet another fascinating theory. Prostitutes were the most beautiful girl in the city. And that is because she was too beautiful to belong to one person. Seems to be some sort of twisted contrived human body socialism. Is that why the Eastern bloc is notorious for human trafficking? Your Wikipedian cop out only seems to cite instances of cop out. I'm not seeing any explanation on the most beautiful girl being selected or the theory of human body socialism.

It is indeed the truth that prostitution is the worlds oldest profession. It has been practiced for centuries across the world and in India too. Men and women have been prostitutes. Prostitution was not always the taboo as it was today. Prostitution was often socially or religiously sanctioned too. Human emphasis on monogamy and committed relationships is an evolved process. Historically our social structures were a lot different.

Sociology has many theories on prostitution and its place in society. The most basic reason is the human need for gratification. It was not about beauty, it has always been about satisfying a need when alternative channels are not available. Soldiers, merchants, traders, travelers away from home; wives and noblewomen alone back home. But it was not always about gratification, many were trained in arts and well educated. They were expected to be intellectual companions, advisors, entertainers, to fulfill other needs. Sometimes men and women would visit prostitutes to learn how to beter please their partners. One can actually further read up in Wikipedia - for more details on the history, social attitudes, rationales and other information - that offers a more realistic and logical explanation than human body socialism of beautiful people.

Honestly, if beautiful people had to be prostitutes - no one would have launched a thousand ships - or risked their lives. Paris and Menaulaus would have learned that sharing is caring and paid their due price. Personally, I actually think prostitutes are usually fugly skanks. The only exception seems to be Pretty Woman (Julia Roberts flick). Now before you get any idea - I watch SVU and there never is a pretty prostitute. Also I have been to NOLA , you cannot take a walk down Bourbon without being solicited. 😆

So my personal theory is that prostitutes being the most beautiful woman in town is perhaps a grapes are sour perspective of certain men. They like to believe that prostitutes are beautiful women. It might be the only way a beautiful woman may acknowledge their existence.
